The cabin is the strong part. Material quality is a clear step above anything in the rental mainstream, the driving position is low and snug, and on a smooth stretch of Sheikh Zayed Road it settles into a quiet, planted cruise. Who fits, and who won't

Four seats, but read that honestly. Up front it's spacious and comfortable for two adults on a long drive. The rear bench is for short hops, kids, or a couple of bags. A grown adult behind a tall driver will not enjoy a run out to Hatta, and getting back there past the folded front seat is a small ceremony.

So this is a car for couples and solo drivers. Two people who want something that looks the part for a week of dinners, beach days and coast drives are the core renter here. Through high summer you'll keep it up and run the climate hard, like any other car, just with less rear-passenger airflow.

Driving it in Dubai

On the E11 the 420i is in its element: quiet, stable, and happy to overtake without drama once you give the turbo a moment to wind up. It's a relaxed long-distance cruiser more than a back-road weapon, and that suits the roads here.

The thing to watch is how low it sits. Steep mall ramps, aggressive speed bumps and some Marina parking dips need a slower, more careful approach than you'd give a crossover, and you'll occasionally hear the nose protest if you rush them. Parking the car itself is easy. It's compact for a premium two-door and the visibility with the roof down is excellent. Salik tolls run to your account, and any RTA fines during the rental pass to you, so keep an eye on the limits on Sheikh Zayed Road where it's tempting to sit faster than you should. Belts on in every seat, as everywhere.

Fuel and how often you'll stop

The 59-litre tank and a real-world figure in the 7 to 9 L/100km range, given Dubai traffic and the AC working hard, means you're not living at the pump. A full tank covers a normal week of city driving and a coast trip or two with room to spare. The 420i takes premium fuel, which is worth knowing, but the running cost over a week is unremarkable for a car that feels this premium.

Rent the 420i Convertible if you're a couple or driving solo, you want a refined, good-looking BMW for cruising and roof-down evenings, and you're booking in the cooler months. It's comfortable, classy, and easy to live with. Go in knowing it's relaxed rather than rapid, the rear seats are token, and a Dubai summer fights the whole convertible idea. If you want the 4 Series shape with real pace, step up to a more powerful 4 Series. If you need space for four adults and airport cases, rent a sedan or an SUV instead.
