It shares its engine, platform and most of its hardware with the Lamborghini Urus, yet the Audi RS Q8 2023 keeps all of that under a far quieter suit, and we rent it in Dubai with a no-deposit option for a small fee instead of the large hold the segment usually demands. We can have it at your door in one to two hours. The case for this page is the disguise. If you want Urus pace and a genuine five-seat family SUV but would rather not announce it to every car park in the city, the RS Q8 is the one that delivers the performance without the theatre or the tariff.
The badge says business SUV; the spec says otherwise. There's a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 with a 48-volt mild hybrid smoothing the low-speed shuffle, Quattro all-wheel drive, and an eight-speed Tiptronic automatic. That's 591 hp and 0 to 100 km/h in about 3.8 seconds, with the top speed limited to 250 km/h. You feel it the first time you open the throttle on an empty slip road. What matters for a renter is that the same drivetrain idles through a multi-storey as politely as any ordinary Q8.

A 591 hp V8 is not cheap to run, and pretending otherwise helps no one. The city figure is 8.3 km/L, and in Dubai's stop-start traffic with the AC working hard you'll see less than that. The 85-litre tank gives a quoted range up to 724 km, but plan on a fill every 450 to 500 km of real mixed driving, sooner if you keep using the engine. Premium fuel is the right call. Budget two or three fill-ups for a normal week with a couple of longer runs. If refuelling frequency genuinely bothers you, this isn't the segment, and a standard Q8 will stretch much further on the same tank.
This is where the RS Q8 separates itself from the low, two-seat fast cars. Five adults sit without anyone wedged against a door, and the 605-litre boot takes a pair of large hard cases plus the soft bags and pushchair a DXB run always seems to produce. Fold the rear seats and you've a van's worth of flat floor. At this price plenty of cars make you trade speed for space, and the whole reason to take the RS Q8 over a coupe is that here you don't have to.
A cabin this size baking in 45-degree sun gets brutal, and the four-zone climate handles it better than most. The front vents shift serious air, rear passengers get their own outlets and controls, and from a hot start the system pulls the cabin down to comfortable in a few minutes rather than the ten you'd suffer in a budget car. Those rear vents matter far more than people expect when kids are in the back on a July afternoon.
At nearly two metres wide the RS Q8 is a big car, and you feel it in older Marina towers and tight bays. The 360-degree cameras and sensors do plenty of the work, but take wide bays where you can. The air suspension is the saving grace in town: it lifts the body over aggressive speed bumps and steep mall ramps that would have a lowered car scraping, then drops it low and flat for the highway. U-turns just need a beat of patience for the length. On the E11 it sits planted and quiet, and overtakes land the instant you ask. Salik tolls and any RTA fines during the rental pass to you, seatbelts are mandatory in every seat, and a child seat is required for under-fours, which we can fit on request.
Take the RS Q8 if you want serious pace and a real family vehicle in one key, without the noise and the looks a supercar draws. It earns its keep precisely because it refuses to make you choose. Skip it if your week is purely short city errands, where the fuel bill and the width are wasted and a standard Q8 does the same job for less at the pump. And if you actually want the drama and don't mind the attention or the cost, the Urus is the louder cousin with the same bones. For most people who need genuine speed and a family SUV that keeps its head down, the RS Q8 is the sharper choice.
