Audi RSQ3 2022 - start from 749 AED / day

We rent the Audi RS Q3 2022 in Dubai with 250 km a day built into the booking, which is most of the point: this is a performance crossover you actually drive, not a garage queen. It's the rare hot SUV that shrinks to school-run size on Monday and turns into a 400 HP weapon by Friday. You sit higher than a hot hatch, you get a real boot, and you keep the five-cylinder soundtrack that made this car famous. The question here is whether a fast, compact SUV is the right rental for your week, or whether you'd be better off with something calmer or bigger.

What you're actually renting

The RS Q3 is a Q3 with the gloves off. Under the bonnet sits a 2.5 litre turbocharged five-cylinder petrol making 400 HP, sent through a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox to all four wheels via Audi's quattro system. That combination does 0 to 100 km/h in about 4.5 seconds and runs to a limited 250 km/h, numbers that embarrass cars costing twice as much off the line.

What sets it apart from the usual fast saloon is the body around the engine: upright seating, easier entry and the cargo space of a compact SUV, with pace that keeps up with proper sports machinery. For a renter who wants the thrill without committing to a low, stiff coupe, that mix is hard to find in this size.

The Sheikh Zayed Road blast, and the limits

This is where the RS Q3 earns its keep. Slip onto the E11, drop a gear, and the five-cylinder pulls hard with that off-beat warble most rivals can't match. Overtaking a slow lane on Sheikh Zayed Road takes a flex of your right foot and no planning, and the quattro grip puts the power down cleanly even when the surface is hot and slick.

Two honest cautions. First, Dubai's speed cameras are unforgiving, and this car reaches the limit faster than your eyes register, so the speed runs away from you if you're not watching. Salik tolls, RTA fines and any speeding penalties pass to you as the renter, and in a car this quick those add up. Second, the ride is firm. The RS suspension and big 20-inch wheels (21s on the Full Options trim) tell you about every expansion joint. On smooth highway it's planted and brilliant. Over Dubai's broken side roads and aggressive speed bumps it thumps.

Living with it day to day

Here's the part the spec sheet hides: this thing is genuinely usable. At 4,507 mm long it slots into Marina and mall bays without the drama a full-size SUV gives you, and the higher seating makes multi-storey ramps and tight U-turns easier than a low sports car. Ground clearance is a modest 170 mm, so take steep mall ramps and the bigger humps slowly. It's a road car, not something for soft sand or a Hatta wadi.

The boot handles real life. You'll fit two large cases plus a couple of soft bags for a DXB or DWC airport run without folding seats. It seats five on paper, but the rear is tight for three grown adults, and legroom behind a tall driver gets snug. Two adults up front and two kids behind is the sweet spot; a family of five with a week of luggage will feel the squeeze.

On the heat, the AC is strong and pulls a cabin baked at 45°C down to comfortable within a few minutes, helped by the smaller volume of air to chill than a big seven-seater. Rear passengers get vents too. Park in shade when you can, but you won't suffer for long after you start the engine.

What it costs you in fuel

Don't rent this car expecting economy. Driven gently around town you'll see roughly 8.7 to 9.0 km/L, and the moment you use the performance it drinks more. With a 63-litre tank and a combined range near 674 km on paper, a hard week realistically means filling up twice, maybe more if you're enjoying yourself. Petrol in Dubai is cheap by global standards, so this isn't a budget-breaker, but the thirst is the trade for the pace.

Who should rent it, and who shouldn't

Rent the RS Q3 2022 if you want supercar acceleration and that five-cylinder noise in a car you can still park outside a café and load with luggage. It suits a couple, or two adults and two kids, who want a fast, characterful week and don't mind a stiff ride. For long highway cruising and overtaking, it's superb.

Skip it if comfort comes first, since the firm setup wears on you over rough roads, and a calmer crossover like a regular Q3 or a Tiguan will treat your spine better. Skip it too if you're moving a full family of five with serious luggage, where a larger SUV makes more sense. But if the noise, the speed and everyday practicality in one compact package is what you're after, nothing in this class does it quite like the RS Q3.
