Audi Q8 e-tron 2021 - start from 761 AED / day

For a week of city driving in Dubai, the Audi Q8 e-tron 2021 can be one of the cheapest large luxury SUVs to run, and one of the quietest cars we hand over. We deliver it charged to your door in one to two hours, with a no-deposit option at checkout. This is the full-electric version of Audi's big SUV, dual-motor quattro, around 355 hp and 402 on boost, finished inside to a standard most petrol rivals can't reach. The real decision isn't whether it's good, it clearly is. It's whether charging fits your week. Get that right and the running cost and the calm are hard to beat. Get it wrong and a petrol SUV will be less hassle.

Running cost: the reason to go electric here

The headline case for this car is what it costs to move. Electricity in Dubai is cheap against petrol, so a week of normal driving in the Q8 e-tron costs a fraction of what the same week in a petrol Q7 or Q8 would. There's no fuel-station detour, no thirsty V6 idling in traffic with the AC flat out. If your driving is the usual city pattern, office, mall, dinner in the Marina, a school run, you'll plug in maybe twice across seven days and barely think about energy cost again.

That saving only lands if charging is convenient. So before the spec sheet, be honest about where you'd top up. The answer decides whether this is the smart booking or the frustrating one.

Range, charging and whether you'll make your trips

The claimed range is 357 km. In Dubai summer, with the AC working hard and some highway running, plan for closer to 280 to 300 km on a full battery. For a city week that's plenty, since most days rarely top 60 to 80 km. The catch is the opposite of a petrol car: sustained 120 to 140 on the E11 drains the battery faster than crawling through town. For a Hatta day or an Abu Dhabi run, charge to full and confirm there's a charger waiting at the far end.

Charging itself is the whole question. Many Dubai apartment towers and villa communities now have chargers, and the public network across malls, forecourts and major car parks is broad. If your building or your regular mall has a point, living with this car is easy and cheap. If every top-up means a special trip, a petrol SUV will be calmer to own for the week. On a DC fast charger the battery climbs quickly to 80 percent, then slows for the last stretch, so plan stops around 80, not 100.

The cabin, and staying cool in the heat

The interior is where the money shows. Soft leather, tight panel gaps, twin touchscreens and seats that stay comfortable over a long drive make it a genuinely expensive-feeling place to wait out traffic. With no engine, no shift and almost no vibration, it stays library-quiet at 120 on Sheikh Zayed Road, which is the point of it on an airport run.

Heat management is a strength, and partly because it's electric. You can pre-cool the cabin while it's still plugged in, so on a brutal afternoon you climb into cold air rather than a 45-degree oven. From a parked soak the AC pulls down fast, rear vents actually reach passengers in the back, and ventilated front seats on most examples take the sting out of leather that's been baking in a mall car park. Three across the back stay comfortable, which isn't a given in this class.

Size, parking and what it won't do

At 4.9 metres long and nearly two wide, this is a big car. Marina towers and older mall car parks mean tight bays and ramps that take care, though the 360-degree camera and sensors do most of the work. The 172 mm clearance and the air suspension handle speed bumps and mall ramps without drama, but this is not a dune car, so keep it to tarmac and graded tracks. Boot space is genuinely useful: two large suitcases plus soft bags fit behind the rear seats, with the small front trunk swallowing the charging cables. Four adults with a week of airport luggage are fine, which beats most five-seat rivals. A few Dubai basics: Salik tolls and any RTA fines during the rental pass to you, and an under-four needs a child seat we can fit. Stricter security terms can apply on a car at this value, so confirm the details when you book.

Who should rent it, and who shouldn't

Rent the Q8 e-tron 2021 if you want near-silent luxury and low running costs, you mostly drive in and around the city, and you have reliable charging at home or somewhere you visit anyway. For that driver it's one of the most relaxing and cheapest-to-run cars on the fleet.

Skip it if charging would be a daily puzzle, or if your week is back-to-back long-distance days or a desert push with no charger at the far end. A petrol Q7 or Q8 gives you the same badge and presence without the planning. The weight also softens the agility a little, so if sharp handling matters more than calm, look elsewhere. For most Dubai weeks, though, this car gets the balance right.
