Audi Q8 e-tron 2020 - start from 701 AED / day

There's a particular calm to driving a big electric SUV in Dubai, and the Audi Q8 e-tron 2020 delivers it better than almost anything at the rate, with a no-deposit plan available at checkout so the security hold doesn't sit on your card all week. This is the full-electric version of Audi's large luxury SUV, dual-motor electric quattro, around 400 horsepower, finished to a standard most petrol SUVs this size can't touch. The argument is simple. If you want near-silent, plush, quick transport with low running costs, and you're willing to spend five minutes working out where you'll charge, this car rewards you every day. If charging sounds like a chore, read to the end before you book.

The cabin, and why it feels expensive

Step in and the money makes sense. Soft leather, tight panel gaps, twin touchscreens and seats that stay supportive over a long drive, all wrapped in a hush that no combustion SUV matches. With no engine to drone and almost no vibration, the cabin stays library-quiet at 120 on Sheikh Zayed Road, and that calm is the whole point of the car. For airport runs to DXB or the longer haul out to DWC, it turns a routine drive into something genuinely relaxing.

It seats five, and unlike a lot of this class, three adults across the rear bench actually travel in comfort. The materials and the quiet make even a crawl through Marina traffic a pleasant place to sit.

Range, charging, and whether you'll make your trips

The claimed range is 440 km. In a Dubai summer with the AC working hard and some highway driving, plan for closer to 320 to 360 km on a full battery, since real energy use sits around 23 to 25 kWh per 100 km. That's still comfortable. A normal week here, the office, the mall, dinner in the Marina, a school run, rarely tops 60 to 80 km a day, so you'll charge maybe twice across seven days rather than nightly.

Charging is the part that decides whether this car suits you. Many Dubai apartment buildings and villa communities now have chargers, and the DEWA network plus paid operators cover most malls, fuel-station forecourts and major car parks. If your building or regular mall has a charger, living with this car is easy and cheap. If you'd have to detour every time to find one, a petrol SUV will be less stressful, so be honest with yourself before you book. On a DC fast charger the battery climbs quickly to 80 percent, then slows for the last stretch, so plan your stops around 80 rather than 100.

One real-world note: range falls on the open highway. Sustained 120 to 140 on the E11 drains the battery faster than city crawling, the opposite of a petrol car. For a Hatta day or an Abu Dhabi run, charge full and check there's a charger waiting at the far end.

Cooling it down, the easy way

Heat management is one of the quiet advantages of going electric here. You can pre-cool the cabin while the car is still plugged in, so it's comfortable before you even open the door. From a parked soak in 45-degree sun the AC pulls the temperature down fast, helped by rear vents that actually reach passengers in the back, so all three rear seats stay cool rather than just the front. On most examples the front seats can be ventilated too, which is a real difference on leather that's been baking in a mall car park.

Living with its size

At 4.9 metres long and nearly two wide, this is a big car, and you feel it in Marina towers and older mall car parks where the bays and ramps are tight. The 360-degree camera and parking sensors do most of the work, but a compact city car this is not. The 172 mm of standard clearance handles normal roads and mall ramps without drama, and the air suspension can raise it further when you need it, though this is a tarmac SUV, not a dune basher, so keep it on graded surfaces.

Boot space handles a real trip. Two large suitcases plus soft bags fit easily behind the rear seats, with a small front trunk for the charging cables. Four adults with a week of airport luggage are genuinely fine here, which is more than most five-seat rivals manage. A few Dubai basics still apply: Salik tolls and any RTA fines during the rental are yours, belts are mandatory in every seat, and children under four need a child seat. The 250 km a day included covers normal use, with extra distance at 3 AED per kilometre.

Who should rent it, and who shouldn't

Rent the Q8 e-tron if you want near-silent luxury and low running costs, you mostly drive in and around the city, and you have reliable charging at home or a regular spot you visit. For that driver it's one of the most relaxing cars we hand over, and the no-deposit option makes it easy to say yes.

Skip it if charging would be a daily puzzle, or if you're heading deep into the desert or running back-to-back long days with no charger at the far end. A petrol Q7 or Q8 gives you the same badge and presence without the planning. The weight also blunts the agility slightly, so if sharp handling matters more than calm, look elsewhere. For most Dubai weeks, though, this car gets the balance right.
