The do-it-all premium SUV is the easiest car to recommend in Dubai, and the Audi Q5 2021 sits right at the sweet spot of that bracket. We bring it to your door in 1 to 2 hours, fuelled and ready, so the rental starts wherever you are rather than at a counter. This is a midsize SUV built for couples and small families who care more about a quiet, well-finished cabin than sheer size. The real decision it settles is this: do you actually need a bigger car for your week here, or is the Q5 the right amount of space and polish? For most people, it is.
Think of it as the comfortable middle. Two adults and two kids fit easily, with room for a week of mall runs, beach gear and a couple of cases. The cabin is the headline. It's hushed at speed, the seats hold up over long airport runs, and the materials feel a class above the volume SUVs in this size. The 2.0-litre turbo petrol with mild-hybrid assist sends 261 HP through Quattro all-wheel drive and a 7-speed S tronic gearbox, so it's quick when you need it and calm when you don't.

| Range | 750 to 875 km |
| Dimensions (L x W x H) | 4663 x 1893 x 1659 mm |
| Ground clearance | 208 mm |
The boot holds 520 litres, which in practice swallows two large suitcases and a couple of soft bags without folding anything. That covers a family of four flying in for a week. Fold the rear seats and you get 1520 litres, enough for a mattress-sized airport haul or a full week's worth of beach and pool kit. If you're routinely moving three big cases plus people, this is where you'd think about a Q7. For nearly everyone else, the Q5 has the space without the bulk.
At 4663 mm long it's a midsize car, not a barge, so Marina towers and mall multi-storeys aren't a problem. It tucks into standard bays and U-turns without three-point fuss. The 208 mm of ground clearance is the underrated part. Dubai's speed bumps and the steep entry ramps at some malls catch lower cars, and the Q5 clears them flat. It's tall enough to feel commanding and short enough to be easy, which is why it books out for people who found a bigger SUV awkward last time.
Summer here is the real test, and the Q5 passes it. Park it in the open at midday and the cabin cools fast once you're moving, with strong front vents and dedicated rear vents so the kids in the back aren't left waiting. Within a couple of minutes it's comfortable, and the climate control holds it there even when the outside reads in the high 40s. The insulated, well-sealed cabin helps as much as the AC does.
The 70-litre tank and real city economy of 9 to 11 km/L give you a usable range of roughly 750 to 875 km. For typical Dubai driving, that means one fill in a normal week. Daily errands, a couple of airport runs to DXB or DWC, and the odd evening across town won't have you back at the pump every other day. It's a turbo petrol SUV, so don't expect hatchback economy, but for its size and pace it's reasonable, and the mild-hybrid system trims the worst of the stop-start drinking in traffic.
This is where the Q5 earns its keep. On Sheikh Zayed Road and the E11 it cruises quietly at the limit and has real overtaking pull when you need to clear a lane. Quattro keeps it planted and the ride stays composed rather than floaty. The 208 mm clearance and AWD also mean a graded track or a flat stretch of sand near the dunes is within reach, though this is a road SUV at heart, not a dune basher.
A few Dubai rules to keep in mind. Salik tolls run on your account as the renter, and any RTA fines during the rental pass to you. Seat belts are mandatory in every seat, and children under four need a proper child seat, which we can add before delivery.
Rent the Q5 if you want a premium, quiet, genuinely comfortable SUV for two adults and up to two or three kids, with the space and clearance to handle a Dubai week without thinking about it. It's the right call for couples who want quality over size and for small families who'd find a full-size SUV more car than they need. If you're carrying six or seven people, or three big cases plus passengers, step up to a Q7. If the premium badge matters more than the room and you want to spend less, a Q3 covers city duty for fewer dirhams. For the middle ground, which is where most renters actually live, the Q5 is the one to book.
