Two adults, three kids and a week of mall runs, school drops and a Friday drive to the dunes is exactly the brief the Volkswagen Tiguan 2023 was built for, and yes, we rent it across Dubai with doorstep delivery and 250 km a day included in the rate. This is the Allspace, the longer seven-seat version, so you get a genuine family crossover with a proper VW cabin, a boot that swallows a real week of luggage, and an occasional third row for the school carpool. We bring it to your door, and the rest of this page is about whether it's the right amount of car for your week, or whether you should go smaller or bigger.
Think of it as the sensible middle. It drives better than most things this size, the cabin feels built to last, and it never asks you to apologise for it on Sheikh Zayed Road. A 2.0-litre turbo with 184 horsepower and an eight-speed automatic means overtaking on the E11 is a non-event, and the front-wheel-drive setup keeps things smooth in city traffic rather than thirsty.
Where it earns its keep is space without bulk. You get five comfortable seats, a third row for short hops, and a boot that handles airport runs for a family of four with room to spare. If you only ever carry two people and a couple of cases, this is more car than you need and a cheaper compact would do the job. If you regularly seat seven adults for long highway stretches, the back row is tight and a full-size SUV suits you better.

With all seven seats up, the boot is small, around 230 litres, enough for a few soft bags and a stroller and not much more. Drop the third row, which is the way most renters use it, and you have roughly 700 litres of flat, square load space. That's two or three large hard cases plus the cabin bags, which covers a DXB or DWC airport pickup for a family without anyone holding a suitcase on their lap. Fold the second row too and it opens up to nearly 1,800 litres, so a flat-pack run or a bulky pram is no drama.
The honest line: as a five-seater this boot is generous, among the best in its class. As a daily seven-seater it isn't, because the cargo space disappears when the back row is up. Use the third row for kids on short trips and you'll be happy. Plan to fill all seven seats and the bags, and you'll be wedging things in.
Dubai summers sit in the high 40s, and a dark cabin parked in open sun gets brutal. The Tiguan's climate system pulls a baked interior down quickly once you're moving, and the front vents are strong. What matters for a family is that there are rear air vents feeding the second row, so kids in the back aren't waiting on cold air to drift back from the dash. The third row gets less, so on a 45-degree afternoon keep the very back for shorter runs.
Park it in the shade where you can, crack the windows for thirty seconds before you set the AC, and the cabin settles fast. The cooled space is large, so it takes a touch longer than a small hatch, but it gets there.
At 4.73 metres long it's a real SUV, not a compact, so Marina multi-storey bays and tight mall ramps need a bit of care. The good news is the visibility is honest, the turning circle is reasonable for the length, and parking sensors take the guesswork out of the tight stuff. Around 200 mm of ground clearance means speed bumps and steep mall ramps don't scrape, and a graded desert track or a soft shoulder near Hatta is fine at sensible speeds. This is front-wheel drive, though, not a 4Motion off-roader, so don't take it into soft sand.
On the highway it's in its element. It cruises quietly at 120, the steering settles, and it has the power to overtake without drama. For airport runs, long E11 stretches and the daily commute, it's one of the easier family SUVs to live with.
The 58-litre tank and roughly 7.5 L/100km mean a realistic 600 to 700 km of mixed city and highway driving between fills, so on a normal week you're refuelling maybe once. Hard city traffic and constant AC push consumption up, that's just physics in this heat, but it's still sensible for a 184 hp seven-seater.
A few practical notes. Salik tolls are billed to you as the renter, and any RTA fines pass through to you, so drive it like it's yours. Seat belts are mandatory in every row, and a child seat is required for under-fours, which we can sort with the booking. Delivery runs 1 to 2 hours to most of Dubai, and the 250 km daily allowance covers normal family use comfortably before the small per-kilometre charge kicks in.
Rent the Tiguan 2023 if you want one car that does almost everything: a quality cabin, a strong boot when the third row is down, genuinely good road manners, and the flexibility of two extra seats for the days you need them. It's the all-rounder, and most families will be glad they sized up from a compact crossover. If your trip is two people and light bags, save money and go smaller. If you'll carry seven adults plus their luggage every day, or you want real off-road ability, step up to a full-size SUV instead. For everyone in between, this is the easy, sensible choice, and we'll have it at your door within a couple of hours.
