Most family SUVs ask you to choose between a sensible size and a premium-feeling cabin, and the Volkswagen Tiguan 2023 is one of the few that gives you both. We rent it across Dubai with 250 km a day in the rate and doorstep delivery in a couple of hours. This is the five-seat Tiguan, the standard one, not the stretched seven-seat Allspace, and that's the point: it's the right amount of car for a couple or a family of four who want a quality crossover without the bulk of a big SUV. The argument is about getting the size right. You get a genuinely good cabin, real road manners and a boot that handles a week's luggage, in a footprint that still parks easily. This page is about who that fits and who should go bigger or smaller.
A lot of renters book a seven-seater they never fill, then spend the week parking something too big for the job. The standard Tiguan sidesteps that. Five seats, all of them properly usable, with adult space in the back rather than a token third row crammed over the rear axle. Two adults up front have plenty of room, and three across the back works for kids or shorter trips. For the most common Dubai rental, a couple plus one or two children, it's exactly enough and not a metre more.
What lifts it above the mainstream is the cabin. The materials, the switchgear and the screens feel a clear step up from the budget crossovers in the class below, and after a week in lesser cars the difference is obvious every time you get in.

The Tiguan drives better than most things at this size and price. The 2.0-litre TSI turbo makes 184 hp through an eight-speed automatic, and that's enough to make it feel brisk rather than merely adequate. It pulls away from lights cleanly, and overtaking on Sheikh Zayed Road or the E11 is a non-event rather than something you plan around. At 120 the cabin stays quiet and the steering settles, so long airport runs and intercity stretches are relaxed. It's front-wheel drive, so it's a composed road car, not a sand machine. For airport runs, the daily commute and the occasional weekend drive, it's one of the easier crossovers to live with.
As a five-seater this boot is generous, among the better ones in the class. With the seats up you've got 520 litres, which is two large hard cases plus the cabin bags, enough to cover a DXB or DWC pickup for a family of four without anyone holding a suitcase on their lap. Fold the rear seats and it opens to around 1655 litres of flat, square load space, so a flat-pack run or a bulky pram is no drama. Because it isn't carrying a folded third row, you get more usable luggage room than the seven-seat Allspace gives you with its back row up. If your real need is space for people and bags rather than extra seats, the standard car is the smarter pick.
Dubai summers sit in the high 40s, and a dark cabin parked in open sun gets brutal, so what matters is how fast the AC recovers. The Tiguan's climate system pulls a baked interior down quickly once you're moving, the front vents hit hard, and there are rear vents feeding the back seat, so kids behind aren't waiting on cold air to drift back from the dash. Crack the windows for the first thirty seconds, then close up and let it run, and it settles fast. For a family with children in the back, those rear outlets are worth more than any badge.
At 4509 mm long it's a proper compact SUV, shorter than the Allspace and easier to place for it. Marina multi-storey bays, tight mall ramps and U-turns are all manageable, the visibility is honest, and parking sensors take the guesswork out of the tight stuff. Around 200 mm of ground clearance means speed bumps and steep mall ramps don't scrape, and a graded track or a soft shoulder near Hatta is fine at sensible speeds. It's front-wheel drive though, not a 4Motion off-roader, so leave the soft sand to a real 4x4.
Salik tolls are billed to you as the renter, and any RTA fines during the rental pass through too. Seat belts are mandatory in every seat, and children under four need a child seat, which we can fit on request. None of it is unusual for Dubai, but it's worth knowing before you set off.
Rent the Tiguan 2023 if you want a quality compact SUV with a premium-feeling cabin, genuinely good road manners and a boot that swallows a family's luggage, in a size that still parks easily. For a couple or a family of four, it's a near-ideal Dubai all-rounder and the cabin alone justifies the choice over a budget crossover.
Step up to the seven-seat Allspace if you genuinely need a third row, even an occasional one. Go bigger still, to a full-size SUV, if you'll carry seven adults and their bags regularly or want real off-road ability. And if it's just you and light luggage for a week, a smaller crossover saves money for space you won't miss. For everyone in the middle, the standard Tiguan is the easy, sensible choice.
