Need a seven-seater in Dubai without the seven-seater price or the deposit? We hand over the Toyota Rumion 2023 with a no-deposit option, so you can put a third row of seats on the driveway without tying up a chunk of cash. This is the budget family answer: a compact MPV built on the Suzuki Ertiga, running a 1.5-litre petrol and an automatic gearbox, frugal enough to forget the fuel station for most of the week. What it does well is the school run, the grocery haul and the occasional full load. Where it asks for honesty is the third row and the boot. This page tells you exactly who it fits and who should size up.
The Rumion is a compact people-mover, not a big SUV pretending to seat seven. It's 4420 mm long and 1735 mm wide, which is small for the job it does. That tidy footprint is the whole point in Dubai. It slips into the tight bays in older multi-storey car parks, takes Marina ramps without drama, and the 185 mm of ground clearance clears speed bumps and mall entrances without you wincing. Reverse parking a car this short, with a high glass house and good visibility, is genuinely easy for a first-time renter.
Power comes from a 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol making around 103 hp, driving the front wheels through a six-speed automatic. That's plenty for what most renters do with it. Around town, in stop-and-go traffic, it's smooth and light to drive. The reality check arrives on Sheikh Zayed Road with all seven seats full and luggage aboard, where the engine has to work hard to build speed for an overtake. Two or three people on board and it cruises the E11 happily. Loaded to the roof, plan your overtakes and don't expect shove.

This is the question that decides the booking, so here's the straight version. The first two rows are good. Two adults up front and three across the middle is comfortable for daily Dubai distances, and kids' car seats fit fine on the second row. The third row is the catch. It's a real bench, but it's a kids' bench, or an adults-for-twenty-minutes bench. Sit two grown adults back there for a run to Abu Dhabi and they'll be folded up by the time you arrive.
The boot tells the same story. With all seven seats up, the space behind the third row is small, enough for a few soft bags or the weekly shop, not a stack of hard suitcases. Fold the third row flat and you get a proper cargo bay, easily a couple of large cases plus bags. So the honest rule is simple. Use it as a five-seater with a big boot most of the time, and call on the third row for the school run, an extra cousin, or a short hop across town. For a DXB or DWC airport run with seven people and all their cases, this isn't the car. You'd be choosing between bodies and luggage. Size up to a midsize seven-seater for that.
For a family car, the Rumion is cheap to keep moving, which is most of its appeal. Toyota quotes 14.0 km/L in the city and 19.0 km/L on the highway, and the real-world figure in Dubai mixed driving sits comfortably between the two. The 45-litre tank gives a quoted range of up to 905 km, so on normal city use you're filling up roughly once a week, not watching the gauge. Over a week of errands that adds up to a small fuel bill for a seven-seater.
The air conditioning matters more than the brochure suggests when it's 45 degrees outside and the car has been parked in the sun. The front vents pull a hot cabin down at a sensible pace, and there are second-row vents to keep kids in the middle row cool, which is the row that counts on a family rental. The third row relies on that airflow reaching back, so on the worst summer afternoons the rearmost seats take longer to cool than the front. Crack the windows for the first minute, then let it run. For school runs and short trips it's a non-issue.
A few rules sit with the renter rather than us. Salik tolls are billed to you as you pass the gantries, and any RTA fines during the rental are passed on too, so drive it like it's yours. Seatbelts are mandatory in every seat, front and back, and children under four need a proper child seat, which the second row takes without fuss. None of this is unusual, but with a full car of passengers it's worth a mention.
Rent the Rumion 2023 if you're a budget-minded family who needs seven seats some of the time and a roomy five-seater the rest, and you want Toyota reliability without paying for a large SUV. For the school run, mall trips, and a car that's easy to park and cheap to fuel, it's one of the smartest-value rentals in Dubai. Skip it if you regularly carry six or seven adults long distances, or if a full house plus airport luggage is your normal load. In that case the third row and the modest 1.5 engine will feel stretched, and a proper midsize seven-seater is the better call. For everyone in between, this is a lot of practical car for very little money.
