Hyundai H1 2020 - start from 632 AED / day

Eleven seats is the whole reason to rent a Hyundai H1 2020 in Dubai, and it's the number that should decide whether this van is right for your trip. We deliver it to your door across the city, usually within one to two hours of booking, with payment on delivery and rent-from-18 if you're under the usual 21 cut-off. This is the people-mover you book when a group landing at the airport won't fit in two saloons, or when an extended family wants to travel together rather than split across cars. The rest of this page is about what eleven seats actually buys you, and where the H1 starts to show its age.

Seating eleven, and the luggage question that comes with it

The H1 carries eleven people, and that's its job. Three rows behind the driver, sliding side doors that make loading easy at a kerb, and enough head and shoulder room that adults in the middle rows aren't folded up. For a wedding party, a tour group, or three generations heading to a weekend at a resort, nothing in the economy class does this for the money.

The catch is the trade between seats and bags. With all eleven seats in use, the space behind the last row is shallow, enough for soft bags and a few cabin cases but not eleven full suitcases. If your group is flying in with checked luggage each, you've two honest options: travel ten-up and fold or remove the rearmost seats for cargo, or run the H1 plus a small second car for the bags. Fold the back row down and the load area opens up to around 810 litres, which swallows a serious stack of cases. Decide this before you book, because a full van of people and a full set of airport luggage rarely fit at the same time.

The table is the reference. The numbers that change your trip are the seat count, the diesel tank and the sheer length, so the rest of the page reads those for you.

Engine, fuel and the airport runs

Under the H1 is a 2.5-litre turbo diesel making 170 hp, driving the rear wheels through an automatic. Nobody rents a van for pace, and the 14.4-second run to 100 km/h tells you what to expect: it gathers speed steadily rather than sharply. Loaded with passengers it still cruises comfortably on Sheikh Zayed Road, and a diesel pulling from low revs suits a heavy vehicle better than a small petrol would.

Fuel is where the diesel earns its place. The 75-litre tank, paired with diesel economy, means a week of airport transfers and city running rarely turns into a chore at the pump. Expect to fill once for a normal week of moderate use, more if you're doing daily long hauls out to the other emirates. For a DXB or DWC pickup with a full van, that range matters: you collect the group, drop them across town, and you're not detouring to a station with eleven people aboard.

Cooling a big cabin in a Dubai summer

A van this size is a lot of air to cool, and that's the honest concern in July. The H1 helps itself with roof-mounted vents feeding the rear rows, so the cold air actually reaches row three rather than dying at the front seats the way it does in many cars. After it's baked in an open lot, the cool-down takes longer than a small hatch simply because there's more cabin, so start the AC and crack a window for the first half-minute to push the hot air out before everyone climbs in. Once it's moving, the rear outlets keep passengers at the back genuinely comfortable, which is the part that matters when you're carrying kids or older relatives on a long transfer.

Driving and parking five metres of van

At just over five metres long and nearly two metres wide, the H1 asks for a moment of thought in tight spots. Older multi-storey towers in the Marina and Downtown have bays it barely fits, and the steeper ramps want a slow, square approach. Use the mirrors and take the wide spaces near the lift core rather than fighting a narrow bay. On open mall parking, hotel forecourts and the airport pickup lanes it's a non-issue, and the high driving position gives you a clear view over traffic. It's rear-wheel drive and built for tarmac, so keep it on the road; this is a passenger shuttle, not a desert tool.

A couple of admin points the desk always flags. Salik tolls run on the van's tag and are billed to you as you pass the gantries, and any RTA fine during the rental passes to the renter, so mind the speed cameras on the E11 with a full load. Seat belts are mandatory in every seat, all eleven of them, and a child under four needs a child seat, which we can fit before delivery.

Who should rent it, and who shouldn't

Rent the H1 if you're moving a real group: an airport run for a large family, a tour party that wants to stay together, or a multi-day trip where two cars would be a hassle. For raw seats per dirham it's the easy answer, and the diesel keeps the running cost sensible across a busy week.

Skip it if your group is six or fewer, where a smaller seven-seater is easier to park and cheaper to run, or if you need eleven seats and a full set of airport cases at the same time, which is the one thing this van can't do in a single load. Be honest about the size, too: if your week is tight city bays and short hops rather than group transfers, the H1 is more van than you need. Booked for the right job, though, it's one of the most useful vehicles on the lot.
