Need a small SUV-shaped runabout for a week of Dubai errands? We rent the Toyota Raize 2024 with payment kept flexible and accepted when we hand the car over, so you can sort it on delivery rather than upfront. The Raize is one of the smallest crossovers you can rent here, and that's the whole point. It sits a little higher than a hatchback, sips fuel from a tiny tank, and slots into parking bays that defeat bigger cars. This page is about whether that trade works for you, because the Raize is cheap and easy to live with around town but tight inside and modest on the highway.
Think of it as a hatchback wearing SUV clothes. The Raize rides on a small front-wheel-drive platform with a 1.0-litre turbo three-cylinder making 98 hp through a CVT automatic. That little turbo gives it just enough shove to keep up in city traffic, and the raised body and 185 mm of ground clearance let you see over the car ahead and clear most speed bumps without flinching.
What it is not is a proper off-roader. There's no four-wheel drive, no low range, and the clearance suits curbs and rough car-park ramps, not soft sand. If you're picturing dune runs or a Hatta trail, this isn't the car. For school runs, grocery hauls, and getting across the city without thinking about petrol, it fits.

This is where the Raize earns its keep. The official figure is around 20.6 km per litre, and even though Dubai's stop-start traffic and full-time AC pull that down, you're still looking at one of the cheapest cars to run that we keep on the fleet. The catch is the tank: 36 litres is small. On a quiet week of short hops you might fill up once. Do a lot of driving, or run the AC hard in July, and you'll be back at the pump sooner than the headline range suggests. Plan on roughly 450 to 500 km of real city range between fills, not the brochure number.
The cabin is small, and in summer that works in your favour. When you leave a Raize baking at 45 degrees, the AC has far less air to chill than it would in a big SUV, so the front vents bring the temperature down quickly once you get moving. There are no rear vents to speak of, but with only the front row and a short cabin behind it, back-seat passengers feel the cold air soon enough. For one or two people doing errands, cooling is a non-issue. Pack the back seat with adults on a hot afternoon and it takes a little longer to settle.
The Raize is genuinely easy to place. At just over four metres long and narrow with it, the tight bays in older multi-storey car parks and the squeezed ramps around the Marina stop being a problem. U-turns are quick, the turning circle is small, and the higher seating gives you a clear view for tucking into a gap. The 185 mm clearance means mall ramps and speed bumps don't scrape, which is more than you can say for a low sedan. If parking and pottering around town is most of your week, the Raize is one of the most stress-free cars we hand over.
Be honest with yourself about highway driving. The little turbo gets the Raize up to motorway speed fine, and it'll happily cruise on the E11 at the limit. Ask it to overtake quickly at 100-plus, though, and the CVT and small engine remind you there isn't much in reserve. Crosswinds nudge a car this light and tall, so you hold the wheel a bit more than in a bigger SUV. For a short hop to DXB or out to DWC it's perfectly fine. For long daily highway commutes or fast covering of distance, something heavier and more powerful will feel less worked.
The boot takes a couple of soft bags or one medium suitcase with room over it, and the rear seats fold if you need to load something longer. Two people with cabin bags and shopping are comfortable. Try to fit a full airport run for four with large cases and you'll be stacking things on laps. If your week involves a big grocery shop plus luggage, fold one side of the rear bench and it copes. Load four adults and their cases and it doesn't.
A few Dubai basics. Salik tolls run on the renter's account, and any RTA fines from your driving period pass to you, so watch the gantries and the cameras. Seat belts are required in every seat, front and back. None of this is specific to the Raize, but it's worth keeping in mind on any rental here.
Rent the Raize 2024 if you're a solo driver or a couple who mostly does city errands and wants the cheapest, easiest car to park and fuel for the week. It's a small SUV for people who want the high seating and the looks without the running cost of something bigger. We'd point you elsewhere if there are four of you with airport luggage, if you'll spend most of the week on the highway, or if you actually want to leave the tarmac. In those cases a proper compact SUV gives you the space and the highway pace the Raize can't. For its real job, getting one or two people around Dubai cheaply and without fuss, it does the job well.
