For a solo driver or a couple who want crossover height on a city-car budget, the Toyota Raize 2023 is one of the cheapest sensible automatics we rent in Dubai, and we can have it at your door inside one to two hours. It's a subcompact SUV, so the real value is a raised seat and an easy view out without the bulk or the fuel bill of a bigger body. That makes it a natural for daily errands, the commute and a light airport hop. It's far less suited to four adults, a week of cases, or constant fast highway work. This page is here to place you on the right side of that line before you book.
The Raize trades on a simple idea: a small car's footprint with an SUV's seating position. At 4030 mm long it parks like a city hatchback, but you sit up high with a clear view over the traffic around you. For one or two people that combination is genuinely good, and the light steering makes it one of the easier cars to thread into a packed mall garage or a tight residential bay.
The cabin is comfortable up front for an hour in traffic. The back is where the small footprint shows. Two adults behind a tall driver get snug fast, and three across the rear is a short-trip arrangement at best. As a runabout for a couple it's spot on; as a four-adult car it isn't.

This is where the Raize quietly wins. The 1.0-litre turbo three-cylinder is built to sip, and in mixed Dubai driving you'll see economy that's very good for a car you sit this high in. The catch is the tank. At 36 litres it's small, so even with light consumption you'll visit the pump a touch more often than a car with a bigger tank.
For a week of city errands that's a non-event. One fill covers most renters, maybe two if you're commuting daily from the outer communities. The turbo also means the engine isn't gasping at low revs the way the old naturally aspirated small cars did, so around town it feels livelier than 98 hp on paper suggests.
The Raize is a city car in crossover clothes, and honesty here saves disappointment. On Sheikh Zayed Road or the E11 it cruises at the limit without drama and will sit at highway speed all day. What it won't do is overtake with authority. Ask for a quick burst past a truck above 100 and the small turbo and the CVT both make you wait, so you plan your passes instead of just stamping on it. A week that's mostly city with a few highway stretches suits it fine. Daily runs to Abu Dhabi or constant fast overtaking call for more engine.
Around town the short body is the whole appeal. U-turns take less road than you expect, the mirrors stay clear on a narrow ramp, and the raised ride height means speed bumps, driveway lips and the steep ramps into older buildings don't make you wince. You won't scrape the nose entering a sloped basement the way a low sedan can. That clearance is for road obstacles, though, not sand. The Raize is front-wheel drive with no off-road hardware, so leave the desert tracks to a real 4x4.
A parked Raize bakes like anything else here, and the first minute at 45 degrees is unpleasant. The upside of a small cabin is that there's less air to cool, so the AC pulls the temperature down quickly once you're moving and the front vents hit hard. Don't expect rear vents or climate luxury at this level, but for one or two people up front it copes with a Dubai summer without complaint. Two operating facts: Salik tolls run on your account while the car is yours, and RTA fines from the drive pass to you, so watch the cameras.
The boot is modest, as the footprint promises. Behind the rear seats you'll fit one large suitcase plus a soft bag or a couple of backpacks. That's the honest limit for two people on a DXB or DWC run. Need a second big case and you fold part of the rear seat, which costs you a passenger spot. For a solo traveller or a couple on a short airport hop it's enough. For a family of four with a week of cases, it isn't.
Rent the Raize 2023 if you're one or two people who want an easy, frugal, high-seated car for city life and the occasional airport run. It parks anywhere, sips fuel, shrugs off bumps and ramps, and it's one of the smartest small rentals in Dubai for that brief.
Look elsewhere if you carry four adults regularly, haul more than one big case, cover daily highway distance, or plan anything off the tarmac. A larger crossover or a sedan will serve you better there, and you'll spend less of the week wishing for room and power. Match the car to the trip, and at its job the Raize is tough to beat.
