Renault Koleos 2023 - start from 242 AED / day

If you want a midsize SUV that's roomy and quiet without the price tag of the German crossovers, the Renault Koleos 2023 is an easy car to live with for a week in Dubai. We hand it over to your door with a no-deposit option, so you can skip the security hold that ties up your card on most rentals. This is a comfortable, well-equipped five-seater built around space and calm rather than sharp handling, and that character decides who it suits. If you're moving two or three people, their bags, and a relaxed pace around the city and out to the coast, it fits. If you want pace or a third row, it doesn't, and we'll say so plainly below.

What kind of SUV the Koleos actually is

The Koleos sits in the midsize bracket against cars like the Nissan X-Trail, Hyundai Tucson and Mazda CX-5, and it leans harder into comfort than any of them. The cabin is wide and airy, the seats stay supportive on a long drive, and road noise stays low at cruising speed. What you don't get is urgency. The 2.5-litre four-cylinder makes 171 hp through a CVT and all-wheel drive, and it's tuned for smoothness, not response. Push for a quick overtake and the CVT lets the revs climb while the car gathers speed in its own time. For airport runs and steady cruising that's fine. If you regularly want to dart through gaps on Sheikh Zayed Road, a turbocharged rival will feel sharper.

Will my luggage and passengers fit

This is where the Koleos earns its keep. The 458-litre boot swallows two large suitcases and a couple of soft bags with room to spare, which is more than most compact crossovers manage. Two adults up front and three across the back is genuinely workable for shorter trips, and the rear bench has real legroom rather than the token kind. Fold the seats and you've got a flat load space for a mall haul or sports kit.

The honest limit is the seat count. It's a five-seater, full stop. If you're a family of six, or you need a third row for visiting relatives, the Koleos can't help and you should size up to a seven-seater like a Kia Sorento or Toyota Fortuner. For five people and their luggage, though, few cars in this rental bracket feel as unhurried.

Heat, the AC and the cabin

Summer is the real test in Dubai, and a parked Koleos that's been sitting in a mall lot at 45C is an oven for the first minute like any car here. The AC pulls the big cabin down to comfortable within a few minutes once you're moving, and rear passengers get their own vents at the back of the centre console, which matters with people in the second row for an hour-long run. The large glass area lets in plenty of light, so park in shade when you can and the cabin starts cooler. For a family car in this climate, those rear vents make it a better pick than smaller crossovers that cool only the front.

Driving it around Dubai

At 4673 mm long the Koleos is a proper midsize SUV, so tight multi-storey bays in the Marina take a bit of care and the turning circle isn't its strong suit on a U-turn. The 210 mm ground clearance is the upside: speed bumps, raised crossings and the steeper mall ramps that scrape a low sedan are no problem here. The AWD system is built for grip in the wet and on loose surfaces rather than serious off-roading, so think light gravel and beach access, not dune bashing.

On the motorway the Koleos is in its element. It cruises quietly at 120, the suspension soaks up expansion joints, and long DXB or DWC airport runs pass without fatigue. Just remember Salik tolls are charged to you as the renter, and any RTA fines from the rental period pass on to you too. Seat belts are mandatory in every seat, and children under four need an appropriate child seat, which we can fit on request.

Fuel and how often you'll stop

Renault quotes around 8.1 L/100km combined, and in Dubai's mix of crawling traffic and AC running flat out you should plan for a bit more than that. With the 60-litre tank, a realistic week of city driving and a couple of longer runs means filling up roughly once, maybe twice if you're covering serious distance. That's reasonable for a midsize AWD SUV, though a smaller front-drive crossover will sip less. The 250 km per day included in the rental covers normal city use comfortably, with extra kilometres charged at a modest rate if you head out of town.

Who should rent it, and who shouldn't

Rent the Koleos if you want a calm, spacious five-seat SUV for family duties, airport pickups and easy motorway miles, and you value comfort over speed. It's a sensible-value pick against the pricier midsize crossovers, and the no-deposit option makes it painless to book. Skip it if you want a car that feels quick or eager, where the turbocharged Tucson or a CX-5 will reward you more, or if you genuinely need seven seats, in which case go straight to a larger SUV. For most renters who just want room, quiet and a relaxed week, the Koleos is the comfortable choice.
