Renault Duster 2023 - start from 149 AED / day

Rent from 18 with us and the Renault Duster 2023 becomes one of the easiest tall SUVs to get into for a Dubai week, since most of the market won't hand a car like this to anyone under 21. We deliver it to your door in one to two hours. The draw here is a 2.0-litre making 143 hp, which is the engine that finally gives this budget SUV enough push to feel relaxed on the highway rather than wheezing onto Sheikh Zayed Road. Pair that with all-wheel drive, real ground clearance and a rate that undercuts almost every crossover in the class, and the Duster makes a straightforward case. It's plain inside, and we'll be honest about that below.

The 2.0-litre is what makes it work

A tall SUV is only relaxing if it can hold its lane at speed, and the 2.0-litre is the reason this one can. With 143 hp it reaches 100 km/h in about 10.3 seconds and tops out near 180. Those aren't quick numbers on paper, but they change how the car feels. Merging onto the E11 or overtaking a slow lorry happens without you planning three cars ahead, which is exactly where the smaller-engined Dusters make you work. The automatic keeps things calm in stop-start traffic, so your left foot stays idle in the Marina queues. For a week that mixes city errands with a longer run out of town, that extra muscle is what stops the car feeling like a penalty for choosing budget.

Height and AWD, and where the limit is

The clearance is the second reason people book a Duster. At around 210 mm it rides over Dubai's speed bumps, the steep lips on mall entrances and rough kerbs without the wince you feel in a low sedan. You sit high, you see over traffic, and the car shrugs off surfaces that would have a hatchback scraping. The all-wheel-drive system sends grip where it's needed on loose ground, so a compacted desert track, a beach access road or a graded path toward Hatta is well within reach.

Be realistic about the off-road limit, though. This is a light SUV with AWD, not a low-range dune basher. Compacted tracks and graded trails are fine. For soft sand and real recovery situations you want a proper body-on-frame 4x4. The Duster covers the in-between, which is where most weekend plans actually land.

Space, boot and the cabin trade

Five seats, with honest room for the class. Two adults up front sit comfortably, and the back takes three kids or two adults for shorter trips. The boot holds around 445 litres with the seats up, enough for two large cases plus soft bags on a DXB or DWC airport pickup. Fold the rear bench and you open a long, flat load space for bulkier kit or a flat-pack run.

Inside is where you pay for the rate. Hard plastics, simple switchgear, none of the screens or soft surfaces you'd find a couple of brackets up. That's the deal. If a premium cabin matters to you, this isn't your car, and we'd rather say so now than at handover.

Heat, fuel and the Dubai rules

From May through September the cabin bakes when parked, like everything here, so what counts is how fast it recovers. Once you're moving, the front vents pull the temperature down within a few minutes rather than fighting the heat all trip. It's a budget SUV, so don't expect rear vents or climate luxury, but for the cabin size the cooling copes. Park in shade where you can and the first minute is far kinder.

Fuel is close to a non-event. The 2.0-litre drinks a little more than the smaller engines Renault fits elsewhere, but combined use sits around 7.8 litres per 100 km, and the 50-litre tank stretches across most of a week of city driving. Petrol here is cheap, so the pace costs you very little in practice. Salik tolls are charged as you pass the gantries, and any RTA fines during the rental pass to the renter. A child seat is mandatory for under-fours, which we can fit on request.

Who should rent it, and who shouldn't

Rent the Duster 2023 if you want real ground clearance and AWD grip on a budget, with enough engine to feel relaxed at 120 and the freedom to wander onto a graded track at the weekend. The 2.0-litre is what separates this year from the cheaper, slower Dusters, and the rent-from-18 option makes the whole group eligible where rivals would turn younger drivers away.

Look elsewhere if interior quality sits high on your list, because the cabin stays firmly budget. Pick a proper 4x4 if soft sand and dune driving are the plan rather than the occasional access road. But for a renter who wants a tough, tall SUV that can leave the tarmac and still hold its own on the highway, this Duster does exactly that for the money.
