The Porsche Boxster 2025 comes with a choice most rentals never offer, and it changes the whole character of the car: a 7-speed PDK dual-clutch or a 6-speed manual, and trims running from 300 hp at the base up to 400 hp in the GTS 4.0. We rent it in Dubai and bring it to your door in one to two hours, but before that we'll help you pick the version that fits how you actually want to drive. That decision, gearbox and trim, is what this page is about, because it matters more than any other number on the spec sheet.
The PDK is the easy, fast choice. It swaps ratios quicker than you can think, it's smooth in the inevitable Dubai crawl, and it makes the car effortless when you just want to cover ground. If your drive includes any real traffic, or you simply want the quickest, most relaxed version, take the PDK.
The 6-speed manual is the enthusiast's pick. It's slower point to point and harder work in gridlock, but on an open road with the roof down it makes you part of the car in a way an automatic can't. Rent the manual only if you'll spend your time on clear roads and you want the engagement. For an airport-to-hotel week with city errands mixed in, you'll be happier with the PDK.
The base 2.0-litre turbocharged flat-four makes 300 hp, and on Dubai roads that's already more than you can legally stretch. Step up through the range and the GTS 4.0 brings a naturally aspirated flat-six and up to 400 hp, with the sharper sound and harder top end that come with it. More power is lovely, but be honest about where you'll use it. If your driving is coast roads at sensible speeds, the base car delivers most of the joy for less. If you specifically want the six-cylinder noise and the extra reach, the GTS is the one to ask for.

Every version shares the same mid-engine layout, and that's the real reason to rent a Boxster. The weight sits between the axles, so it turns in flat and the steering stays honest, planted through a bend in a way front-engine convertibles can't match. On Sheikh Zayed Road it cruises calmly and overtakes the moment you ask. Out toward Jebel Jais it's in its element. In bumper-to-bumper traffic it's wasted, like any sports car, so save it for the roads where it can breathe.
The folding top is the point, with one honest caveat. Through the hot months, roof-down driving is a dawn and after-dark pleasure, not a midday one. Drop it at noon in July and you'll have it back up within a minute. With the roof up the cabin seals tight, and being small works in your favour: the AC cools so little air that it comes down fast once you're moving, quicker than a big SUV. Front vents are strong; there are no rear vents, because there's no rear.
At 131 mm of clearance with a long front overhang, the Boxster wants a slow, angled approach over steep mall ramps and sharper speed bumps so the lip doesn't catch. Parking is otherwise simple thanks to the compact footprint. Two seats and two small boots mean room for soft bags, not airport suitcases, so plan light. Salik tolls and any RTA fines during your rental pass to you, and enforcement here is strict, so keep the performance inside the limits.
Rent the base PDK Boxster if you want the cleanest version of the experience: easy in traffic, quick enough for any road here, and the lower rate of the range. For most renters, a couple or a solo driver chasing the open-top drive, that's the sweet spot.
Choose the manual if you live for the engagement and your week is mostly clear roads, and step up to the GTS 4.0 if the flat-six sound and the extra power are specifically what you came for. Skip the Boxster altogether if you need to carry people or luggage, where a sedan or SUV makes far more sense. The beauty of this one is that you get to tune the car to the drive before it even arrives.
