It's lighter on its feet and easier to place. You feel more of the car at legal speeds, which matters more on Dubai roads than a 911's extra punch you rarely get to use.

The roof, and when to actually use it

The folding fabric roof opens and closes in around 9 seconds and works up to about 50 km/h, so you can drop it at a light without stopping. That's the car's headline feature in Dubai, and it comes with a caveat worth saying plainly. From late spring through summer, roof-down driving is an early-morning and after-dark pleasure, not a midday one. At noon in July the sun is brutal and the cabin bakes. Run the roof down at dawn along the coast or after sunset, and put it up by mid-morning.

With the roof up, the cabin is a small sealed two-seater, and the AC cools it fast because there's so little air to move. Park in the sun at 45 degrees and the first minute is unpleasant, same as any car here, but a tight cabin recovers quicker than a big SUV. Front vents are strong, and there are no rear vents because there's no rear.

Living with it on Dubai roads

This is a low car with limited front clearance, and you'll feel it. Steep mall ramps, the sharper speed bumps in residential areas, and some multi-storey entries need a slow, square approach so the nose doesn't catch. Parking itself is easy given the compact footprint, but watch kerb height when you nose into a bay. On the open road it's a different animal. It has real presence on Sheikh Zayed Road, holds a high cruising pace without fuss, and overtakes instantly.

A few rental facts to keep in mind. Salik tolls run to your account, and any RTA fines or speed-camera penalties during your rental pass to you, so respect the limits, which are enforced hard here. Seatbelts are mandatory. The car gives you the speed; the responsibility for using it sensibly stays with you.

Luggage and airport runs

Be honest with yourself about space before you book. There's a front boot and a rear boot, around 150 litres up front and 125 at the back. Together that's two soft bags or one cabin case plus a backpack, and not much more. For a DXB or DWC pickup with one or two travellers packing light, it works. For a family with check-in luggage, it doesn't, and no amount of clever loading changes that. This is a weekend and a date-night car, not an airport shuttle for four with suitcases.

Fuel won't slow you down much. At roughly 8.1 litres per 100 km on a mixed week and a 54-litre tank, you're looking at a real-world range near 660 km, so a single fill covers most of a leisure rental unless you're hammering it. Drive it hard and that number drops, as it does in any performance car.

Who should rent it, and who shouldn't
