Few cars carry a drive the way the Porsche 911 2025 does, and we rent it in Dubai with a no-deposit option that keeps a large hold off your card for what is still a serious supercar. This is the Carrera S, the latest turn of the rear-engined flat-six that has been the sports-car benchmark for sixty years. The argument for it is simple and a little unusual: it's one of the very few cars this fast that you can actually live with day to day, civilised enough for a Marina morning yet thrilling the second the road opens. That balance is the whole point, and below is where it holds up and where it doesn't.
This is the Carrera S, not the base Carrera or the wider Turbo, so the numbers matter before you book. A 3.0-litre twin-turbo flat-six sits behind the rear axle, drives the rear wheels through an eight-speed PDK automatic, and puts out 450 hp. Nought to 100 km/h takes 3.8 seconds and it runs to 304 km/h. Those are the headline figures, and the car delivers them with a flatness and precision that cheaper fast cars don't have.
What sets the 911 apart from rivals in the badge bracket isn't the straight-line speed. The same car idles politely through traffic, has light steering at parking pace, and rides firmly without beating you up. You can take it to dinner and to a track day in the same week.

The thing nobody mentions in the brochure is the nose. The 911 sits low, and Dubai is full of aggressive speed bumps, steep mall ramps, and underground entries that scrape a low front lip if you take them straight. The car has a front-axle lift that raises the nose at low speed, and you'll use it more than you expect: approaching humps, dropping into a parking structure, easing over the lip at a hotel forecourt. Learn where the button is on day one.
Parking itself is easier than the car looks. It's no wider than a mid-size sedan, the steering is light at crawl, and forward visibility is good. Tight multi-storey bays are fine. The low seating position is the only real adjustment, felt most when you reverse out of a packed bay.
On Sheikh Zayed Road the 911 is in its element. It cruises at the limit barely awake, overtakes with one squeeze, and has the presence to clear the middle lane without drama. Just remember the enforcement: Salik tolls, speed cameras, and any RTA fines pass straight to you as the renter, and this is a car that gathers them quickly if you're not watching the readout. Belts are mandatory front and rear.
A green coupe baking in a summer car park gets hot fast, and the 911's small, low cabin is a mixed thing in 45-degree heat. The volume of air to cool is tiny, so once the AC is working it pulls the cabin down quickly and holds it. The catch is the first couple of minutes after a midday start, when the leather and the low glass have been soaking up sun. Crack the windows for the first stretch and it settles. The rear vents are token, but the rear seats are token too, so it hardly matters.
For range, the 64-litre tank and roughly 8.9 L/100km on paper sound generous, and they are if you drive gently. Nobody rents a 911 to drive gently. Expect real city-and-fun economy well short of that, so plan on filling up every few days of enthusiastic driving rather than once a week.
Be honest with yourself about what fits. The front boot, under the bonnet where the engine isn't, holds 132 litres. That's one cabin-sized case and a soft bag, no more. The rear seats take a second small bag or a child for a short hop, but they are not adult seats and shouldn't be sold as four-up transport. Two people with carry-on luggage for a long weekend: comfortable. A DXB or DWC airport run for two with full-size cases: tight, and you'll be putting a case on the rear bench.
If you need to carry people or proper luggage, this is the wrong car, and that's fine. The 911 is rented for the drive and the badge, not the boot.
Rent the Carrera S if you want the genuine article: a real sports car you can drive every day of your trip, comfortable enough for the morning commute and quick enough to make an evening coast run memorable. For one or two people who came to Dubai partly to drive something special, nothing in this class does both jobs as well.
Skip it if comfort or space is the priority. A long highway haul with three passengers and a week of luggage belongs in an SUV. If you want the badge but plan to lounge more than drive, a four-seat grand tourer will treat your back and your passengers better. And if the low nose worries you, that instinct is sound. The 911 rewards a driver who's paying attention, in Dubai as much as anywhere.
Security terms on a car at this level can be stricter than on our everyday fleet, so confirm the exact requirements when you book.
