A Porsche 911 GT3 RS 2024 rental in Dubai is not a comfort cruiser you take to brunch. The naturally aspirated flat-six, and what makes this different

Most performance 911s we rent lean on turbocharged engines that shove torque in low and taper off up top. The GT3 RS does the opposite. Its 4.0-litre flat-six has no turbos at all, and it makes its 518 to 525 hp by revving, all the way to a 9,000rpm redline that most road cars never get near. Torque peaks at 465 Nm, but only at 6,300rpm, so this isn't an engine that pulls hard from a standstill. It's one that comes alive past the point where a normal car would already be changing up.

Porsche only offers a 7-speed PDK dual-clutch gearbox in this car, no manual, and drive goes to the rear wheels alone. Zero to 100 km/h takes 3.2 seconds, quicker than the more relaxed 911s in our range, yet top speed tops out at 296 km/h, lower than a standard 911. That's not a weakness. The GT3 RS trades outright top end for the downforce its aero package generates, and on the roads you'll actually drive it on in Dubai, you'll never miss the difference.

Two seats, no comfort, and the aero that explains why

Every other 911 we rent is badged 2+2. This one isn't. The rear seats are gone, replaced by a roll cage and a shallow shelf, so it's you and one passenger, in fixed carbon bucket seats with no back-row option at any price. There's no frunk either. Porsche's own GT division has said outright that the trunk space is gone, because that opening now houses a central radiator feeding the car's cooling and front aero. Whatever you're bringing has to fit on the passenger seat or that small rear shelf, nothing more.

All of that exists for one reason: the wing. The swan-neck rear wing, the active front and rear aero elements, and a steering-wheel-activated drag reduction system that flattens the wing under hard throttle all work together to push the car into the road at speed, generating close to 860 kg of downforce at 285 km/h. None of it does anything useful at Marina roundabout pace. What it does mean day to day is a car that sits very low, lower than any other 911 in our fleet, so mall ramps, valet entrances and speed bumps all need a slow, deliberate approach. Ask about the front-axle lift when you book; it raises the nose by about 30 mm at low speed and it's the difference between clearing a ramp cleanly and scraping the front lip.

The cabin cools quickly once you're moving, since there's barely any interior volume to cool and no rear seats competing for airflow, but the carbon bucket seats themselves get hot fast in direct August sun and there's no seat cooling to offset it. Park in shade where you can. As with any rental here, Salik tolls and RTA fines during the hire come back to you, and the minimum age to drive this one is 21.

The mileage math, and why it matters here

The rental includes 250 km a day, the same allowance as the rest of our range, but the cost past that is not. Extra kilometres on the GT3 RS run AED 15 each, a genuinely steep rate compared with the fraction-of-a-dirham figures on our other 911s, and it adds up fast: fifty kilometres over your daily allowance is AED 750 you didn't plan for. This isn't an oversight on our part. A car built to run a 4.0-litre naturally aspirated engine hard and often costs more to keep in that condition, and the pricing reflects that rather than hiding it in the base rate.

Plan your route before you book rather than after. With a 64-litre tank and WLTP combined economy around 13.4 L/100km, real-world range sits somewhere around 450 to 480 km on a gentle day and noticeably less if you're using the rev range the way this engine wants to be used. A single loop to a track day and back, or a full day exploring at pace, can eat through the daily allowance faster than the same distance would in a more relaxed car. Who should rent it, and who should look elsewhere
