Peugeot 3008 2024 - start from 269 AED / day

Rent from 18 with us and the Peugeot 3008 2024 is one of the more interesting keys we'll put in your hand in Dubai, because most rivals make you wait until 21 or 23. This is the French crossover for the renter who wants a small SUV with some personality instead of another anonymous grey box. It carries a 1.6 turbo with 150 hp, a boot that swallows real airport luggage, and an interior that feels like someone actually designed it. Below is the honest version of who that suits for a week here, and where you'd be smarter spending the money on something bigger or plainer.

The 1.6 turbo and what it gives you on the road

The engine is the quiet reason this car works. The 1.6 turbo makes 150 hp, takes 8.9 seconds to 100 km/h, and runs out to a top speed of 186 km/h. None of that reads as fast on paper, but the mid-range is where it counts in Dubai. You join Sheikh Zayed Road, need to slot across two lanes before your exit, and the engine just goes without you flooring it and waiting. That's the gap between this and the cheaper economy crossovers that feel strained the moment the speedo passes 100.

Around town it stays relaxed and easy. The automatic shifts smoothly, the throttle is light off the line, and the steering needs almost no effort for U-turns and car-park crawling. For a week that mixes mall runs with the occasional E11 stint, the 3008 never feels like the thing holding you back.

Will your bags and your family fit

The 520-litre boot is one of the best in this class. Two large suitcases sit side by side with room for a couple of soft bags on top, so a DXB or DWC pickup for a family of four works without anyone holding luggage on their lap. Fold the rear seats and the floor opens into a long, flat space for a beach trip or a furniture run.

In the cabin, two adults up front have plenty of room and the rear seats two grown-ups in comfort on any normal trip. The fair warning is that the styled, sloping cabin shaves a little headroom off a boxier rival, so if you're regularly putting tall adults in the back for long drives, they'll feel it. For a couple with one or two kids, it's a non-issue.

The i-Cockpit layout you should test first

Before you settle in for a week, spend two minutes on Peugeot's i-Cockpit. The wheel is small and set low, and you read the dials by looking over the rim rather than through it. Most renters adapt within a day and end up enjoying how quick and direct the steering feels. A few never get comfortable, usually taller drivers who find the wheel top clipping their view of the instruments. When we deliver, set the seat and wheel in the parked car and check your sightline is clean before you drive off. If it isn't, tell the driver, because this is the one part of the car people genuinely split on.

Heat, fuel and the running costs that fall to you

Cooling matters more than horsepower for most of the Dubai year. Park the 3008 in open sun and the cabin bakes like anything else, but the AC brings it back to comfortable within a few minutes of driving, and the rear vents keep back-seat passengers out of the worst of it. Start it, get the air circulating, give it a minute before you load kids in, and a 45-degree afternoon is manageable.

On fuel, the turbo returns roughly 6 L/100 km if you drive gently, more in heavy traffic with the AC working hard. The 53-litre tank means a fill lasts most of a week on normal city use, less if you're doing daily airport runs or long highway stretches. The car runs Salik automatically as you pass the gantries, and those tolls are yours, as are any RTA fines during the rental. Children under four need a child seat, which we fit on request.

Parking, ramps and where it runs out of road

At 4.45 metres the 3008 is easy to place. The light steering and tidy length make tight multi-storey bays and Marina U-turns simple, and the 219 mm of clearance shrugs off the speed bumps and mall ramp lips that catch lower cars. It's front-wheel drive and built for tarmac, so soft sand and dune tracks are not its job. For Hatta trails or proper desert driving, you want a real 4x4.

Who should rent it, and who shouldn't

Rent the 3008 2024 if you want a small SUV with character and a cabin that feels a step above the economy bracket, you're two adults or a small family doing city errands and the odd highway run, and you're happy to try the i-Cockpit. The young-driver angle helps too: if you're 18 to 22, this is a far more interesting car than most rentals will let you near.

Look elsewhere in two cases. If you're tall and the small wheel blocks your view of the dials no matter how you set the seat, a conventional crossover like a Tucson or Sportage will suit you better. And if you're carrying four adults with full airport luggage every day, or you want genuine off-road ability, size up to a larger SUV. Within its lane, the 3008 is the one we'd hand over to anyone who wants style and highway pace without leaving the budget class behind.
