Most crossovers in this price bracket feel out of puff the moment you join Sheikh Zayed Road, and the Peugeot 3008 2023 is the one that doesn't. We rent it across Dubai with delivery to your door in one to two hours. The draw here is a 1.6-litre turbo making 150 hp that gives this French SUV genuine highway legs, so it merges and overtakes on the E11 without the strained, flat-out feeling you get from cheaper economy crossovers. Pair that with a cabin that actually has some style and a 520-litre boot, and the 3008 makes a strong case for a renter who wants more than basic transport. The question this page settles is whether that's worth a higher rate than the plain rivals in its class.
The 1.6 turbo pulls 150 hp and 240 Nm, and it transforms how this car feels in normal Dubai use. Zero to 100 takes 8.9 seconds and the top speed is 206 km/h, but the number that matters is the mid-range. Want to merge across two lanes before your exit, or pass a slow truck on the E11? The engine answers without you planning ahead. It holds highway pace all day and the automatic settles into a relaxed cruise rather than hunting for ratios. This is not a small-engined crossover gasping above 100. It feels comfortable at the speeds Dubai driving actually demands.
Around town that same engine is easy and tractable, pulling cleanly away from lights without lurch. For a renter who splits the week between city errands and longer highway runs, the 3008 never feels like the limiting factor.
Park the 3008 next to the usual grey crossovers and it stands apart inside. The dashboard is layered in a way most rivals never attempt, with a high digital instrument display, a row of metal-look toggle switches, and a central screen angled toward the driver. For a renter who's tired of the same appliance-grade interior in every other bay, this is part of the appeal.
One thing to test before you commit to a week. Peugeot uses its i-Cockpit layout, which means a small steering wheel that you look over rather than through to read the dials. Most people adapt within a day and enjoy how quick the steering feels. Some taller drivers find the wheel rim clips the top of the instrument view. When we deliver, spend a couple of minutes setting the seat and wheel in the parked car. If your sightline to the dials is clean, you'll get on with it well.

The 520-litre boot is genuinely good for this class. Two large suitcases plus a couple of soft bags fit for a DXB or DWC airport pickup, which is more than most compact crossovers manage. Drop the rear seats and you've a long, flat load space for bulkier gear.
Four adults travel comfortably for city hops and shorter runs, and the rear is fine for two adults across a longer trip. The honest caveat is that the styled cabin eats a little knee and headroom versus a boxier rival, so very tall rear passengers on a long drive will notice it.
The turbo returns around 6 litres per 100 km if you drive gently, though Dubai stop-start traffic and heavy AC push that higher in real use. With a 53-litre tank you're realistically filling up about once a week on normal city driving, more often if you're doing daily airport runs or long E11 stints.
Cabin cooling matters more than horsepower for most of the year here. Leave the 3008 in open sun and the interior bakes like any car, but the AC pulls a parked cabin down to comfortable within a few minutes of driving, and there are rear vents so back-seat passengers aren't left to suffer. Start it, get the air moving, give it a minute before you load kids in, and a 45-degree afternoon is manageable.
At 4.45 metres the 3008 stays easy to place. The light steering and tidy length make U-turns and multi-storey bays manageable, and it clears Dubai's speed bumps and mall ramp lips without the scraping that catches low sedans. It's front-wheel drive and built for tarmac, so leave soft sand to a proper 4x4.
A few rental rules sit with you, not us. The car is fitted for Salik, so tolls run through automatically as you pass the gates, and those are yours to cover along with any RTA fines during the rental. Children under four need a child seat, which we can fit if you ask when booking.
Rent the 3008 2023 if you want a crossover with real highway pace and a cabin that feels a cut above the economy class it's priced in, and you're happy to try the i-Cockpit layout. For city errands mixed with regular E11 runs, the turbo engine is the feature that justifies the rate.
Look elsewhere in two cases. If you're tall and the small wheel blocks your view of the dials, a conventional crossover like a Tucson or Sportage will suit you better. And if you regularly carry four adults with full airport luggage, or you want genuine off-road and desert ability, size up to a larger SUV. Within its lane, though, the 3008 is the one we'd hand over for anyone who wants character and pace without leaving the economy bracket entirely.
