Peugeot 2008 2023 - start from 139 AED / day

On Dubai's cheap petrol the Peugeot 2008 2023 is one of the least expensive ways to run a stylish SUV for a week, and that running cost is where we'd start the pitch. The 1.2-litre turbo sips fuel from a small 44-litre tank, so a normal week of city driving rarely needs more than one stop at the pump. We deliver it across Dubai with a no-deposit option, on a debit card or pay-on-delivery if you'd rather not lock up your money. The case for it is value with a bit of flair: a five-seat crossover that costs little to feed, parks easily, and looks and feels nothing like the economy badge it's priced against. The question this page settles is whether the compact size fits your trip.

Running cost first, because that's the appeal

The 44-litre tank is the number worth reading twice. The 1.2 turbo is efficient by design, and even allowing for Dubai reality, short trips, constant AC and stop-start Sheikh Zayed Road traffic, you're looking at somewhere around 7 litres per 100 km in mixed city use. That gives you roughly 600 km between fills, which for most renters is a single fuel stop across a normal week of errands and airport runs. The included 250 km a day covers the daily city loop without thought, and beyond that it's 1 AED per extra kilometre, a figure that only matters on a long Hatta or Abu Dhabi day. Cheap to feed and cheap to run is the honest headline here.

Who fits, and what the boot actually takes

Treat the 2008 as the higher, smarter version of a small hatchback rather than a shrunk family SUV. Two adults, a couple of kids and a week of mall runs and beach days fit fine, and the raised seat gives you a clear view over traffic. The cabin is the part people remember: a small steering wheel, a high digital binnacle you look over, and a layered dashboard that reads a clear step above the class.

The boot holds 434 litres, which is genuinely good for this size and beats most small hatchbacks. In practice that's two medium cases plus a soft bag, or one large case and the weekly shop with room to spare. For a DXB or DWC run with two people, luggage isn't what decides this car. Where it gets tight is four adults each with a full case, and there the back seat is the limit too: fine for kids, average on knee room behind a tall driver. If you're a family of four travelling heavy, that's your cue to look at a 3008 instead.

It's quicker than it needs to be

The 155 hp turbo is generous for a body this small, so the 2008 never feels strained. It merges onto Sheikh Zayed Road and overtakes above 100 without planning ahead, and the 8-speed automatic stays smooth in traffic. It's a city crossover that's also genuinely comfortable on the highway, not an economy car gasping for breath at speed. For a Dubai week that mixes town errands with the odd longer run, that spare pace makes the car feel relaxed rather than busy.

Heat, parking and the rules that fall to you

The cabin cools quickly because there isn't much of it. Park in 45-degree sun and the small interior pulls down to comfortable faster than a big SUV, with strong front vents doing the work. There are no rear air vents, so on the hottest afternoons back-seat passengers feel it a beat later than those up front. Start the AC the moment you get in and it's a non-issue for the short hops this car is built for.

Parking is the easy part. At just over 4.3 metres the 2008 tucks into bays that defeat a midsize SUV, the turning circle suits Dubai's frequent U-turns, and the 170 mm of clearance clears mall ramps and speed bumps without the scrape of a low sedan. It isn't a desert tool, so leave soft sand to a proper 4x4. A few rental rules sit with you, not us: Salik tolls run on the account you're driving under, RTA fines pass to the renter, so watch the speed cameras on the E11, and children under four need a child seat, which we can add.

The recommendation

Rent the 2008 if you want a stylish, higher-seated crossover that's cheap to run and easy to park, and you value the Peugeot cabin feel over outright space. For a couple or a small family doing a Dubai week, it sits in the sweet spot between a plain city hatch and a full SUV, and it costs very little to keep moving. Step up to a 3008 if you're four adults with luggage or you want a roomier back seat and a deeper boot. And if cabin character means nothing to you and you only want the cheapest automatic going, a plainer rival will save a little more. For most people after a smart small SUV that won't drain the fuel budget, the 2008 is the one we'd hand over.
