Slotting into a Marina parking bay or a tight multi-storey ramp is where a small crossover earns its keep, and the Peugeot 2008 2023 does that without making you feel like you've given up on style or a higher seat. We rent it across Dubai with the no-deposit option, so you can book it on a debit card or pay on delivery and skip the held-funds hassle most desks still insist on. It's a five-seat SUV on a city-car footprint: the question this page settles is whether that compact size suits you, or whether you should size up to a 3008 for real family room.
Think of this as the higher, smarter version of a small hatchback rather than a shrunk-down family SUV. Two adults, a couple of kids and a week of mall runs and beach days work fine. The raised seating gives you a clear view over Dubai traffic, and the cabin has the Peugeot character the brand is known for: a small steering wheel, a high digital binnacle, and a dashboard that feels a step above the economy class it's priced in.
Where it gets tight is four adults plus a week of airport luggage. The back seat is fine for kids or shorter trips, but knee room behind a tall driver is average for the class. If you're a family of four travelling heavy, read the boot figures below honestly, then decide.
| Spec | Figure |
|---|---|
| Engine | 1.2-litre turbo petrol |
| Power | 150 hp |
| Transmission | Automatic |
| Drivetrain | Front-wheel drive |
| Seats | 5 |
| 0-100 km/h | 8.7 seconds |
| Fuel tank | 44 litres |
| Boot | 434 litres |
| Dimensions (L x W x H) | 4304 x 1775 x 1550 mm |
| Ground clearance | 170 mm |
| Colour | White |
The numbers worth reading twice are the boot and the tank. 434 litres is genuinely good for this size, beating most small hatchbacks and a fair few rivals in the class. In practice that's two medium cases plus a soft bag, or one large case and the weekly shop with room to spare. For a DXB or DWC airport run with two people, luggage isn't what decides this car. For four people each with a full case, it is, and a sedan boot may suit you better.
The 44-litre tank is the headline for anyone watching the meter. The 1.2 turbo is efficient on paper, but be realistic about Dubai: short trips, constant AC at full tilt, and stop-start Sheikh Zayed Road traffic push real consumption up. Expect somewhere around 7 litres per 100 km in mixed city use rather than the official figure, which still gives you roughly 600 km between fills. For most renters that's one fuel stop across a normal week. Petrol here is cheap, so the 2008 stays inexpensive to run even when you're not driving gently.
The included 250 km a day covers airport runs, commutes and the usual city loop without thought. Go past it and it's 1 AED per extra kilometre, which only matters on a long Hatta or Abu Dhabi day.
The cabin cools quickly because there isn't much of it. Park in the sun at 45 degrees and the 2008's small interior pulls down to comfortable faster than a big SUV does, with strong front vents doing the heavy lifting. There are no rear air vents, so on the hottest afternoons back-seat passengers feel it a beat later than those up front. Start the AC the moment you get in and it's a non-issue for the short hops this car is built for.
Parking is the 2008's strongest argument. At just over 4.3 metres it tucks into bays that defeat a midsize SUV, the turning circle is tight for U-turns, and the 170 mm clearance clears mall ramps and speed bumps without the scraping you get in low sedans. It isn't a desert tool, so leave the soft sand to a proper 4x4, but for paved Dubai it's exactly the right size.
A few rental rules sit with you, not us. Salik tolls run on the account you're driving under, and any RTA fines pass through to the renter, so watch lane discipline and speed cameras on the E11. Seatbelts are required in every seat, and children under four need a child seat, which we can add.
On the open road the 150 hp turbo is more than this small body needs, so the 2008 never feels strained merging onto Sheikh Zayed Road or overtaking above 100. The 8.7-second 0-100 time gives you a genuine turn of pace, and the automatic stays smooth in traffic. It's a city crossover that's also comfortable on the highway, not an economy car gasping for breath at speed.
Rent the 2008 if you're a couple or a small family who wants a higher seat, easy parking and low running costs, and you value the Peugeot cabin feel over raw space. It's the sweet spot between a basic city hatch and a full SUV. If you're four adults travelling with luggage, or you want a roomier back seat and a bigger boot, step up to the 3008. And if cabin style means nothing to you and you only want the cheapest possible automatic, a plainer rival in the same class will save you a little more. For most people booking a stylish, parkable crossover for a Dubai week, the 2008 is the one we'd hand over.
