Pay how you like on the doorstep, then drive off in an Opel Crossland 2023 that we hand over anywhere in Dubai within an hour or two. Cards, cash, wallets and bank transfer all clear at delivery, so there's no fuss before you have the keys. This is a tall, light subcompact crossover, and that shape is the whole point: a higher seat than a hatchback, an easy car to thread through tight bays, and a boot that holds more than its footprint suggests. It rents as an economy crossover, and it suits a solo driver or a couple far better than it suits four adults with a week of airport luggage. Here's where it fits, and where it doesn't.
Think of this as a city car that sits you up high. You get the raised hip point and clear forward view of an SUV without the bulk that makes one a pain to park. For errands across Jumeirah, a weekday commute down to Business Bay, or a quiet run out to the airport with two people and a couple of cases, it does the job without complaint and without drinking much fuel.
What it isn't is a load-lugger or a desert machine. It's front-wheel drive only, so soft sand and graded off-road tracks are off the table. Four full-size adults will find the rear bench fine for short hops and tight on a longer one. If that's your trip, read the recommendation at the end before you book.
| Spec | Opel Crossland 2023 |
|---|---|
| Engine | 1.2L turbo 3-cylinder petrol |
| Transmission | Automatic |
| Drive | Front-wheel drive |
| Seats | 5 |
| Power | 110 hp, 205 Nm |
| 0 to 100 km/h | 10.9 seconds |
| Top speed | 187 km/h |
| Fuel economy | about 5.7 L/100km (WLTP combined) |
| Fuel tank | 45 litres |
| Boot | 410 litres, up to 1,255 with rear seats folded |
| Dimensions (L x W x H) | 4,217 x 1,765 x 1,605 mm |
| Ground clearance | 160 mm |
| Colour | Red |
At 4,217 mm long the Crossland is shorter than most sedans, and that pays off every time you pull into a packed multi-storey. Marina and mall ramps don't faze it, and the tight bays at older buildings around Deira or Satwa leave you room to open the door. The tall glass and high seating make placing the nose easy, which matters on a blind U-turn off a busy road.
Ground clearance is 160 mm. That clears Dubai's speed bumps and the lip on most parking ramps with margin to spare, so you won't be crawling over humps holding your breath. It's a city figure, not a dune figure. Treat any unpaved surface as a no.
A small cabin is an advantage when it's 45 degrees outside and the car has been baking in an open lot. There's simply less air to cool, so the front vents pull the temperature down fast once you're moving. Park in shade where you can, crack the windows for the first thirty seconds to dump the worst of the trapped heat, and the AC catches up quickly. Rear passengers rely on airflow from the front rather than their own vents, which is normal for this class and fine for two kids on a short ride. For a back seat full of adults on a long afternoon drive, it's worth knowing the rear cools more slowly.
The 45-litre tank paired with real-world economy in the high 5s to low 6s L/100km gives you a comfortable week of city driving between fill-ups. Most renters doing errands and short commutes will visit a pump once, maybe twice across seven days. That's one of the quiet wins of a light turbo three: it sips fuel in stop-and-go traffic where bigger engines waste it.
On Sheikh Zayed Road the Crossland cruises happily at the limit and overtakes when you plan ahead. Be honest with yourself about the engine, though. With 110 hp pulling a tall body, hard acceleration past 100 km/h asks the little three-cylinder to work, and it gets vocal. For settled motorway cruising it's perfectly relaxed. For repeated high-speed overtaking with a full car, it feels stretched.
This is where the Crossland earns its keep. The boot holds 410 litres with the rear seats up, which swallows two large suitcases plus a couple of soft bags, more than you'd expect from a car this size. Drop the 60/40 rear seats and it opens up to 1,255 litres, enough for a flat-pack run or bulky shopping. For a couple landing at DXB or DWC with a week's bags, the space is genuinely enough. For three or four people each bringing a full case, the seats stay up and the boot fills fast, so plan accordingly.
A few Dubai basics worth stating plainly. Salik tolls are charged to the renter, so factor in the gates you pass through on routes like Al Garhoud or the SZR crossings. RTA traffic and parking fines pass to you as well, so keep an eye on the speed limits and paid-parking zones. Seat belts are mandatory in every seat, and children under four need a proper child seat.
Rent the Crossland 2023 if you're one or two people who want a high, easy, frugal car for Dubai city life and the odd airport run. It parks anywhere, cools fast, and carries far more luggage than its size suggests, all on an economy budget. That's a strong combination and it's exactly who this car is for.
Size up if your trip is heavier. Four adults travelling together, regular long highway hauls at speed, or any plan that touches sand or graded tracks all point to a larger crossover with more power, ideally one with all-wheel drive. The Crossland is a smart small-footprint choice, not a do-everything one. Match it to a solo driver or a couple and it rarely puts a foot wrong.
