Nissan X-Trail 2024 - start from 257 AED / day

We rent the Nissan X-Trail 2024 in Dubai with a no-deposit option, so you can book a family-size SUV without locking up a chunk of your card for the week. It's the car we hand to people who spend their days on Sheikh Zayed Road and need something that's calm at speed, swallows the airport luggage, and doesn't punish them at the pump. The argument for this one is simple: as a daily highway and airport SUV for a family, the X-Trail hits the comfortable middle between a cramped crossover and a thirsty full-size 4x4. Here's where it earns that and where it doesn't.

How it drives on Dubai roads

The 2.5-litre petrol makes 181 hp through a CVT, and the whole car is tuned for relaxed cruising rather than sharp acceleration. That suits the way most people actually drive here. It holds 120 on the E11 quietly, the ride stays settled over the expansion joints, and there's enough mid-range to merge and overtake without drama if you give it a moment to wind up. The CVT can drone if you bury the throttle, but in normal driving you barely notice it.

For the daily run between home, the office and a school, this is an easy car to live with. It's smooth in stop-and-go traffic and the visibility is good, which takes the edge off the worst of the morning crawl. It's a road SUV first, and a 4WD version is available if you want the extra grip, though most renters here won't need it.

Keeping the cabin cool

This is the test every Dubai rental has to pass, and the X-Trail handles it well. Leave it parked in the sun at 45 degrees and the air pulls through strongly once you're moving, dropping the front of the cabin to comfortable within a minute or two. The second row gets its own vents, so children or rear passengers aren't left sweating while the front cools first. For a family using the car through the summer months, those rear outlets matter more than almost anything else on the spec sheet.

Luggage and the airport run

The boot holds around 585 litres with the rear seats up, which is a genuine family figure rather than a crossover's token space. Two large cases and a couple of soft bags fit comfortably, so a DXB or DWC pickup for four people and their luggage works without anyone holding a bag on their lap. Fold the rear bench and the floor goes flat and wide, which is handy for a furniture run or a big weekly shop.

Inside, four adults travel in real comfort and the second row has room for three across for shorter trips. For two adults and two kids with a week's worth of bags, the X-Trail is comfortably sized rather than just adequate.

Fuel, range and a week of driving

The number that decides your week is range, and here it's a strong one. The 55-litre tank with roughly 8.9 litres per 100 km in the city gives a real-world figure close to 705 to 740 km. For a family doing school runs, errands and the odd airport trip, that's most of the week between fills. Spend more time on the highway and it stretches further still, since the X-Trail is at its most efficient cruising steadily on the E11.

Parking, bumps and Salik

At 4.68 metres it's a mid-size SUV, so the tightest Marina bays and steepest mall ramps want a little care, but the light steering and high view make it manageable once you're used to it. The roughly 205 mm of ground clearance clears Dubai's speed bumps and car-park lips without you flinching.

Two operating costs sit with you, not us. Salik tolls are charged as you pass the gantries, and any RTA fines during your rental are passed on. Children under four need a child seat by law, and we'll fit one if you ask when booking.

Who it's for

Rent the X-Trail 2024 if you want a comfortable, fuel-sensible SUV for a family week of commuting, errands and airport runs, and you value a real boot and a quiet highway ride over outright pace. It's the right size for daily Dubai life and far easier on fuel than a big 4x4.

If you regularly carry more than five people, look at a dedicated seven-seater instead. And if you only ever drive two of you around the city, a compact crossover covers it for less money. For the family in the middle, this is the car that fits.
