Nissan X-Trail 2023 - start from 237 AED / day

Two adults, a couple of kids, a week of mall runs and a weekend that might end up on a graded track near Hatta: that's the brief the Nissan X-Trail 2023 quietly handles, and it's the family SUV we rent in Dubai for people who want space and a bit of capability without paying full-size SUV money. We deliver it to your door in one to two hours and you can rent from 18. The case for the 2023 car is that it's the all-wheel-drive version, so on top of being a roomy, easy family wagon it has the grip to take a light off-tarmac detour in its stride. Below is what that buys you and where the limits sit.

Size, parking and the city

At 4.68 metres the X-Trail is a proper mid-size SUV, so it's worth being clear about parking before you book. The tightest Marina bays and the steeper multi-storey ramps need a measured approach rather than a quick swing, but the tall seating position, big glass and light steering make it easy to judge once you've driven it a day. U-turns are fine and the turning circle isn't awkward for the size.

Ground clearance of roughly 205 mm means the speed bumps that litter Dubai's residential streets and the lips at mall entrances don't have you wincing. You sit high, you see out well, and day-to-day city driving is relaxed. It's bigger than a compact crossover, and you feel that as more room inside rather than as a chore to park.

Space for the family and the bags

This is where the X-Trail makes its case. Four adults travel in genuine comfort, and the second row takes three across for shorter trips, so a family of four or five fits without anyone feeling boxed in. The boot holds around 585 litres with the rear seats up, which is a real figure: two large cases plus a few soft bags go in without a struggle, and a school run with sports kit and a pram is no drama.

Fold the rear bench and the floor opens up flat and wide for a big shop or a flat-pack haul. For an airport pickup at DXB or DWC with four people and their luggage, this is a car that does it cleanly rather than just barely managing.

What the all-wheel drive actually gets you

The AWD system is the reason to pick the 2023 over a front-drive rival. It's not a low-range, rock-crawling setup, so treat it as a confidence and grip aid rather than a dune machine. On a graded track to a Hatta picnic spot, on a sandy car park, or on a slick road after rare rain, it puts the power down without fuss and pulls away cleanly where a 2WD car might scrabble.

What it won't do is soft, deep dune sand. For that you want a proper four-wheel drive with low range and the right tyres aired down. For everything between a Dubai school run and a firm desert track, the X-Trail's AWD is well matched and easy to use, since it sorts the grip out for you in the background.

Fuel and how far a tank goes

The 2.5-litre petrol makes 181 hp through a CVT, and it's tuned for smooth, quiet progress rather than quick sprints. The 55-litre tank with around 8.9 litres per 100 km in the city gives a real range near 705 to 740 km. That covers most of a week of city running and a couple of airport trips before you fill up. The AWD uses a fraction more than a 2WD car would, but over a week it's a small difference.

Heat, Salik and the rest

Dubai summers test any cabin, and the X-Trail copes. Parked in the sun at 45 degrees, the air comes through strongly once you move and the front cools within a minute or two, with rear vents keeping second-row passengers comfortable rather than left to bake. For a family running the car through July, that's the spec that earns its keep.

Two costs sit with the renter. Salik tolls are charged as you pass the gantries, and any RTA fines during the rental are passed on to you. A child under four needs a child seat by law, and we can fit one on request.

Who should rent it

Rent the X-Trail 2023 if you want a comfortable, well-sized family SUV that handles the city easily and has the all-wheel-drive grip for the occasional track or beach road, all without stepping up to a big 4x4's running costs. It's the value pick in this class for a family that wants a little more than tarmac-only ability.

If your weekends mean serious dune driving, size up to a low-range 4x4. And if you never leave the city and it's only two of you, a front-drive compact crossover saves money for space you won't miss most days. For a family that wants room plus a margin of capability, this is the one.
