Nissan X Terra 2024 - start from 529 AED / day

We hand over the Nissan X-Terra 2024 at your door in Dubai, usually within one to two hours of booking, so you can have a full-size 4WD family SUV ready before the school run or the weekend Hatta trip. This is a body-on-frame midsize SUV, not a soft crossover, and that single fact decides whether it's right for you. It rides taller and firmer than a car-based seven-seater, the 2.5-litre engine works to move a heavy body, and the cabin trails the latest crossovers on polish. What you get in return is genuine ground clearance, real 4WD, and a high commanding view. If you actually want desert and rough track as well as a roomy daily, that trade pays off.

What kind of SUV this is

The X-Terra is built on a ladder frame and shares its underpinnings with Nissan's pickup and Terra line. That construction is the whole point. It's why the SUV sits 243 mm off the ground and shrugs off a rutted desert track, and it's also why the ride feels stiffer over Dubai's speed bumps than a car-based crossover would.

Power comes from a 2.5-litre four producing 165 horsepower and 241 Nm, paired with a 7-speed automatic. Those are honest family-SUV numbers, not sporty ones. On Sheikh Zayed Road the X-Terra cruises at 120 without fuss, but you plan your overtakes rather than stab the throttle, because the engine has a tall, heavy vehicle to haul. Around town the automatic is smooth and the high seating makes lane changes easy to read.

Does my family and luggage fit

Seven seats are the headline, and for most families that means five adults in real comfort with two kids in the third row, or short third-row trips for adults who don't mind it. The middle row is the sweet spot, with proper width and rear air vents that matter in this climate. Put the third row up and the boot shrinks to coats-and-a-couple-of-bags territory, so a full house plus airport luggage is the tight combination to plan for. Fold that rear row flat and you free up a deep, square load bay that swallows a week of shopping, a pram, or several large cases for a smaller group heading to DXB or DWC.

If you're four people with airport bags, you ride in genuine space with the third row folded and luggage behind. If you're seven people with airport bags, expect to stack cases on laps or pack light. That's the honest limit of any midsize seven-seater, and the X-Terra is no exception.

Heat, cooling and the daily drive

The cabin gets the rear air vents this car needs. After a few hours parked in a summer car park, the interior bakes, and a tall SUV cabin holds a lot of hot air. The front blowers pull the temperature down at a steady rather than instant pace, so the trick most renters use is simple: drop the windows for the first minute, then close up and let the system catch up. The second-row vents keep kids in the back from cooking on a long run.

Parking takes a little thought. At 4.9 metres long and tall with it, the X-Terra fills a standard mall bay and wants a careful line in Marina's tighter multi-storey ramps. The high view and light steering help, and once you've parked it twice you stop noticing. It's a bigger vehicle to thread than a compact crossover, and you should expect that.

Fuel, Salik and running it for a week

The 78-litre tank and roughly 8.7 L/100km on the official cycle give a real-world range close to 850 to 900 km mixed, less if you spend the week stuck in city crawl with the AC fighting 45-degree heat. In practice most renters fill once across a normal week of school runs, mall trips and a highway day, then top up before handing it back. It's a heavy SUV, so it drinks more than a small car, and that's the price of the size and the 4WD.

A few Dubai facts to keep clean: Salik tolls run on your account while you have the car, and any RTA fines pass to you, so watch your speed and the toll gates. Seatbelts are required in every seat, and children under four need a proper child seat, which we can fit if you ask.

Hatta, dunes and the case for 4WD

This is where the X-Terra earns its keep. The 243 mm of clearance and selectable 4WD mean the mountain roads to Hatta, graded desert tracks, and soft-sand entry points are within reach, not just a brochure promise. It won't out-climb a serious modified 4x4, but for a family that wants a weekend dune drive or a wadi picnic and then a clean school run on Monday, it covers both ends in one booking. Few seven-seaters at this size offer that honestly.

Who should rent it, and who shouldn't

Rent the X-Terra if you want one vehicle that does the family daily and the off-tarmac weekend, you value the high view and the 4WD, and you can live with a firmer ride and a cabin that's practical rather than plush. Size your group sensibly: seven people travel well, seven people plus full airport luggage do not.

Skip it if you'll never leave the tarmac. If your week is all Sheikh Zayed Road, airport runs and mall parking, a car-based seven-seat crossover rides softer, sips less fuel and parks easier, and you won't miss the clearance you never use. The X-Terra is the right call only when the rough stuff is part of the plan.
