Nissan X Terra 2023 - start from 455 AED / day

Need a seven-seater that handles the school run on Monday and a dune trip on Saturday without renting two different cars? We rent the Nissan X-Terra 2023 across Dubai, and the no-deposit option means you can book it without locking up a chunk of cash on a card hold. This is a body-on-frame midsize SUV, so it gives up some of the smooth, car-like manners of a crossover and gives you genuine off-road ability and three usable rows in return. The argument of this page is simple: for a big family that wants one affordable vehicle for the daily grind and the occasional Hatta or desert weekend, the X-Terra earns its keep. For tarmac-only driving, a softer crossover will treat you better.

What you're actually renting

The X-Terra sits on a ladder frame, the same basic recipe as a pickup. That's the whole point. It's why it shrugs off rough desert tracks and broken edges that make a unibody crossover flinch, and it's also why the ride feels firmer and busier over speed bumps and patched city roads than a Tucson or a Kicks would.

Under the bonnet is a 2.5-litre four-cylinder making 165 hp, paired to a seven-speed automatic. That's enough for daily Dubai driving and relaxed highway cruising. Load it with seven people, a full boot and the AC fighting 45-degree heat, and you'll feel the engine working. It pulls, it just doesn't surge. On Sheikh Zayed Road it settles into a comfortable cruise, and it'll reach a 200 km/h top speed on paper, but this is a car you drive at the limit, not above it.

Does my family and luggage fit

Seven seats, and the back two are real, not a token bench bolted in for the spec sheet. Kids ride happily in the third row, and an average adult will sit there for an airport run without complaining. Long days are a different story, so for grown-ups think short hops rather than a drive to Abu Dhabi.

The trade is boot space. With all three rows up, you get enough room for a few soft bags and the weekly shop, not a stack of hard suitcases. Folding the third row flat changes everything and opens up a long, square load bay that swallows a serious airport haul, prams, or camping kit for the desert. So the honest read is this: seven people plus heavy luggage at the same time is the one job it can't do. Pick the people or pick the cargo for any single trip, and you're comfortable.

Heat, AC and the inside

The cabin is plain and built to last rather than to impress. Hard-wearing plastics, a sensible layout, nothing that'll wow you at handover. What matters more in June is that the air conditioning has a big box to cool and it manages it. Front vents are strong, and the second row gets its own vents, which keeps kids in the middle seats from melting. The third row catches less of the cold air, so on a car that's been parked in the sun, give it ten minutes with the fans up before everyone piles in. A windscreen sunshade and cracked windows on pickup make a real difference here.

Clearance, 4WD and the desert

This is where the X-Terra justifies the firmer ride. At 243 mm, ground clearance is well above any crossover, so steep mall ramps, high speed bumps and rough construction-road edges are non-events. Point it at Hatta's mountain roads or a graded desert track and it stays composed where a low car would scrape and struggle.

With the 4WD version you get genuine soft-sand capability, the kind that lets a confident driver air down and head onto the dunes for a day. If you've never driven sand before, go with someone who has and learn the basics first, because clearance and four driven wheels help you, they don't drive for you. If your weekends stay on tarmac, the 4WD hardware is just weight you're carrying around, and a crossover would suit you better.

Living with it in Dubai

It's a tall, wide SUV close to five metres long, so tight multi-storey bays and Marina ramps need a bit more care than a hatchback does. The high seating position and good visibility help, and parking sensors take the stress out of squeezing into a mall bay. U-turns need a touch more room. Nothing here is hard once you've driven it for a day.

On running costs, plan for a real-world figure around 11 to 12 km/L in mixed city and highway use, less if you're heavy in traffic or out on sand. The 78-litre tank means you're not at the pump often. A week of normal family driving is roughly one to one-and-a-half fills, which keeps fuel spend predictable.

A few Dubai rules to keep in mind. Salik tolls run on your account through the rental, and any RTA fines during your hire pass to you, so drive to the limits. Seat belts are mandatory in every row, the third row included, and children under four need a proper child seat. We can fit one on request.

Who should rent it, and who shouldn't

Rent the X-Terra 2023 if you've got a large family or group, want one affordable vehicle that covers the daily school-and-mall routine, and you actually plan to use a weekend in Hatta or on the sand. That combination is exactly what this SUV is built for, and few seven-seaters at this price do the rough stuff as honestly.

Skip it if your driving never leaves the city and the highway. The body-on-frame ride is firmer than a crossover's, the cabin is plain, and the 165 hp engine has its hands full with a full load. For smooth, quiet, tarmac-only family duty, a car-based crossover will leave you happier. But if you want a roomy SUV that can take seven and still tackle a desert track, the X-Terra is the sensible pick. Book it for delivery anywhere in Dubai, and the no-deposit option keeps it easy.
