Nissan Pathfinder 2022 - start from 442 AED / day

Seven or eight seats, a third row your kids will actually use, and a boot that swallows a week of school bags and groceries: that's the job most families want from an SUV in Dubai, and the Nissan Pathfinder 2022 is built around it. We deliver it to your door in Dubai in one to two hours with 250 km a day included, which is more headroom than most rentals give you for daily school runs and the odd Abu Dhabi trip. This page is about whether the Pathfinder is the right size for your week: roomy and comfortable with a strong V6, sensible for families, but worth a hard look before you assume the third row and the boot do everything at once.

Who the Pathfinder actually suits

This is a three-row family hauler, not a compact crossover and not a full-size truck. The 3.5L V6 makes 284 HP through a nine-speed automatic, so it pulls cleanly onto Sheikh Zayed Road and overtakes without drama, even loaded with people and bags. If your week is school drop-offs, mall runs and a couple of airport collections, it has the space and the manners for all of it.

It earns its keep in the middle ground. Five-seat crossovers run out of seats the moment grandparents or a friend's kids come along, and full-size SUVs cost more to rent and fuel and are harder to park. The Pathfinder sits between the two, and for most families here that's the right place to sit.

The third row and the boot: does everyone and everything fit

Be honest with yourself about who's sitting in the back row. The Pathfinder's third row is genuinely usable, which is more than you can say for many seven-seaters, but it's built for kids and teenagers on Dubai-length trips, not two adults on a long highway run. For the school run with up to seven children, or a grandparent for a short hop to the restaurant, it's fine. For four adults plus luggage to the airport, you'll want the third row folded and the rear two seats free.

That brings up the trade most families miss. With all three rows up, boot space is tight, roughly enough for a few soft bags and the day's shopping, not three large suitcases. Drop the third row and it opens up to a proper cargo bay that takes a family's airport cases without a fight. So the rule for a DXB or DWC run is simple: if you need the seventh seat, pack light; if you need the luggage, you're carrying six, not seven.

On seating, the standard car seats eight on a bench second row. The version with second-row captain's chairs seats seven and is more comfortable per passenger but loses you a seat. We'll tell you which configuration is on the car before delivery so there's no surprise at the kerb.

Fuel, refuelling and the V6 reality

A 3.5L V6 hauling a two-tonne SUV is no fuel miser, so plan around it. Expect around 8 km/L in city stop-and-go and closer to 12 km/L cruising on the E11. On the 70-litre tank that's a real week of school runs and errands on one fill, maybe two if you cross the emirates often. Petrol is cheap here, so the absolute cost is modest, but the V6 is the price of the easy highway power.

Heat, the cabin and Dubai roads

A big cabin takes longer to cool than a small one, and at 45°C that matters. Park the Pathfinder in the sun for an hour and the first few minutes are warm, but the system pulls it down to comfortable within a few minutes of driving, and there are vents for all three rows, so kids in the back aren't left baking while the front gets the cold air. That rear and third-row airflow is one of the real reasons to choose a three-row SUV over a cheaper people-mover here.

Size is the honest catch. At just over five metres long and nearly two wide, the Pathfinder needs thought in tight Marina bays and older multi-storey ramps, and you'll use the cameras on every U-turn. Ground clearance of around 180 mm clears speed bumps and mall ramps comfortably without making it a serious off-roader; the 4WD version handles a graded desert track or a wet road better, but this is a tarmac family SUV first. On the open road to Abu Dhabi or out to the airport it's quiet, planted and easy.

A few Dubai basics: Salik tolls run on your account during the rental and any RTA fines come back to you, so mind the gantries and the speed cameras. Seat belts are required in every seat, the back ones included, and children under four need a proper child seat, which we can fit if you ask when you book.

The recommendation

Rent the Pathfinder if you're a family of five to seven who wants one comfortable car for school runs, mall trips and airport collections, with a strong V6 for the highway and air conditioning that actually reaches the back. It's the sensible middle choice. If you're regularly seven adults with full luggage, or you want commanding desert capability, size up to a full-size SUV. If it's just two of you doing short city errands, you're paying for space and fuel you won't use, and a five-seat crossover is the smarter book. For everyone in between, this is the one.
