Renting a Nissan Pathfinder 2021 in Dubai puts a full seven-seat SUV on your driveway, delivered in one to two hours with 250 km a day included and a no-deposit option if you'd rather not lock up your card. Before the space and the V6, though, the first thing to settle with a car this size is whether it fits your week in the city, because at just over five metres long it's a lot of SUV for a Marina bay. Our argument is this: the 2021 Pathfinder is the right book when you genuinely need three rows and the room they bring, but if your days are mostly tight Downtown car parks with two people aboard, you're buying length and fuel you won't use. Here's how it actually behaves around Dubai.
There's no getting around it: this is a big car. At roughly 5,040 mm long and just under two metres wide, the Pathfinder needs a moment of thought in older multi-storey ramps and the narrower Marina bays, and you'll lean on the reversing camera and sensors on every U-turn rather than your mirrors. Once it's parked, the size pays you back in cabin room, but the parking itself is the daily tax you pay for it.
The high seating position helps a lot. You sit up above the traffic with a clear view down the road, which makes placing the car easier than the numbers suggest. For drivers used to a sedan, the first day takes adjustment; by day three it's second nature.

Dubai is full of speed bumps, raised mall entrances and the odd steep parking ramp, and 180 mm of ground clearance handles all of it without the wince you get in a low car. You won't scrape on a Marina ramp or a mall lip. That same clearance, with the 4WD version, gives you confidence on a graded desert track or a gravel approach, though this is a comfort-tuned family SUV rather than a dune basher, so we wouldn't take it deep into soft sand without lowering pressures and knowing the route.
The Pathfinder's third row is genuinely usable, more so than many seven-seaters of its time, but it's sized for kids and teenagers on Dubai-length trips, not adults on a long highway run. For a school run with a full load of children, or a grandparent along for the evening, it does the job.
Luggage is the trade families miss. With all three rows up, the boot takes a few soft bags and the shopping, not three big suitcases. Fold the third row down and it becomes a proper cargo bay that handles a family's airport cases easily. So for a DXB or DWC collection the maths is simple: use the seventh seat and pack light, or fold it and carry six with full luggage.
The 3.5-litre V6 makes 284 hp through a smooth CVT, so the Pathfinder pulls cleanly onto Sheikh Zayed Road and overtakes on the E11 without drama even when it's loaded. At a cruise it's quiet and settled, which is what you want for an Abu Dhabi run or an airport trip. Expect around 10.3 km per litre in mixed driving, which on the 74-litre tank gives a real week of running on a fill, maybe a top-up if you cross the emirates often. Petrol is cheap here, so the V6's appetite is more a fact to plan around than a real expense.
At 45 degrees, cooling an interior this large is a proper test. Parked in the sun the first minute or two is warm, but the climate system pulls it down to comfortable soon after you move off, and there are vents for all three rows so children in the back aren't left baking while the front gets the cold. That rear airflow is one of the better reasons to pick a three-row SUV over a budget people-mover for a Dubai summer.
A couple of local basics: Salik tolls run on your account during the rental and any RTA fines pass back to you, so mind the gantries and the cameras. Belts are required in every seat, the rear rows included, and under-fours need a child seat by law, which we can fit on request.
Rent the Pathfinder 2021 if you genuinely need seven seats and the space that comes with them, and you're comfortable parking a five-metre SUV for the room and comfort it gives your family. For school runs, mall trips and airport collections with a full house, it's the right size of car and an easy one to live with once you're used to the footprint.
Think twice if your week is mostly two people threading through packed city car parks, where the size and fuel are wasted; a five-seat crossover or a sedan would suit you better. And if you're regularly seven adults with full luggage, size up to a larger SUV or plan for a roof box, because that's the one job even this much car struggles to do at once.
