Nissan Magnite 2024 - start from 128 AED / day

Need a cheap, easy set of wheels for a week of solo runs around the city? We rent the Nissan Magnite 2024 in Dubai with payment kept flexible and settled on delivery, so you don't sort out the money until the car is at your door. It's one of the smallest, lowest-cost SUVs you can put on a rental agreement here, a tall little crossover that sits you up high, sips fuel, and slots into bays that defeat bigger cars. What this page sorts out is whether that's enough for your week, or whether you should size up.

Spec at a glance

The Magnite runs a 1.0-litre turbo three-cylinder petrol through the front wheels, paired with an automatic gearbox. The numbers below come from the Nissan spec sheet and the rental listing.

What it actually costs to run

This is where the Magnite earns its keep. The 1.0 turbo is genuinely economical, and on city driving you'll see something close to its rated 5 l/100 km, maybe a touch more in heavy traffic. With a 40-litre tank that's a real-world range in the region of 650 km, so one fill can stretch most of the week for a solo renter.

You still pay your own Salik tolls and any RTA fines, since both pass to the renter. But fuel itself won't be the line item you worry about. Among the cars we hand over, few cost less to keep moving.

Parking and city manoeuvres

At under four metres long, the Magnite is one of the easiest things to park in the city. It tucks into the short bays in older multi-storey car parks, swings through tight U-turns without a three-point shuffle, and the high seating position gives you a clear view over the bonnet when you're nosing into a gap. Marina and mall ramps are no drama.

The 205 mm of ground clearance is the quiet bonus. It clears Dubai's taller speed bumps and steep entrance ramps without the scrape a low hatchback gives you. That clearance is for kerbs and bumps, though, not the desert. This is front-wheel drive with no low-range, so keep it on tarmac and out of the soft stuff.

Cooling a small cabin in summer

A small cabin has one advantage when it's 45 degrees outside: there's less air to chill. The Magnite's AC pulls a parked cabin down reasonably quickly because it isn't fighting a large volume of baked air. Front vents do the work fine. There are no dedicated rear vents, so a back-seat passenger on a long July afternoon won't feel the cold air as directly, which is worth knowing if you regularly carry someone in the back. For a solo driver or a front pair, it copes well.

Boot and passengers

The 336-litre boot is better than the car's footprint suggests. It swallows one large suitcase plus a soft bag or a couple of cabin cases comfortably, which makes the Magnite a fair pick for a short DXB or DWC airport hop with light luggage. Fold the rear seats and you free up a lot more room for a flat-pack or a bigger shop.

Five seats are on paper, but treat the back as honest for two adults or a clutch of kids rather than three grown passengers across. Seatbelts are mandatory in every seat, and under-fours need a child seat. For two adults and city life it's roomy enough; load it with four adults and a week of cases and it gets tight fast.

On the open road

Around town the turbo feels lively for its size, and the low-end pull means you're not flooring it at every light. The honesty comes on Sheikh Zayed Road and the E11. A 1.0-litre carrying highway speed has to work, and overtaking at 120 takes planning rather than a stab of the pedal. It'll hold motorway pace happily enough for a solo driver, but it's not a car that shrinks long fast cruising the way a bigger engine does. If your week is mostly highway miles between emirates, you'll want more under the bonnet.

The cabin matches the price. Plastics are hard, the kit is basic, and road noise climbs at speed. None of that matters for short city trips. On a two-hour run it reminds you this is the budget end of the range.

Who should rent it, and who shouldn't

Rent the Magnite if you're a solo driver or a couple who mostly stay in the city, want the lowest fuel bills we offer, and value a car that parks anywhere and rides high over the bumps. For commuting, errands, and the occasional light airport run, it's the rock-bottom value pick and it does the job without fuss.

Look elsewhere if you're carrying four adults regularly, doing long highway stints between emirates, or expecting a plush cabin. In those cases step up to a larger crossover with a bigger engine and rear vents. And if you had any desert plans, this front-driver isn't the one. For its actual job, cheap and easy city motoring, the Magnite is hard to beat on cost.
