A lot of Dubai's older buildings and multi-storey car parks were designed around narrower cars than most people drive today, and that gap is exactly where the Nissan Kicks 2024 earns its keep. Roll it down a tight basement ramp or into a diagonal mall bay built decades ago, and it fits without the three-point shuffle a mid-size SUV needs. We deliver it to your door across Dubai within one to two hours, no counter visit required. This page settles one thing: whether a small crossover with real ground clearance and a genuine boot covers your week here, or whether a second row of passengers means you need more car.
The Kicks runs a 1.6-litre naturally aspirated four making 118 hp and 149 Nm, sent to the front wheels through a CVT automatic. It's an unglamorous combination, and that's the point. No turbo lag, no dual-clutch shudder at low speed, just smooth, predictable pull away from a red light or out of a parking ramp. In the daily crawl of Dubai traffic the CVT keeps revs low and the cabin quiet, which is where most rental weeks actually happen.
Take it onto Sheikh Zayed Road or the E11 and the picture stays honest rather than exciting. It settles into a 120 km/h cruise without strain and holds it all day. Ask it to overtake a truck in one confident push, though, and the CVT flares the revs before the speed catches up, so you plan the gap rather than force it. That's normal for a small naturally aspirated engine on this kind of gearbox, not a flaw unique to this car. Treat it as a city and highway cruiser rather than a car built for aggressive overtaking, and it never disappoints.
At 4,295 mm long and 1,760 mm wide on a 2,620 mm wheelbase, the Kicks sits between a supermini and a full family SUV, small enough to park like a hatchback but tall enough to give you the raised seating a crossover is bought for. Ground clearance is 200 mm, more than most cars this size carry and enough to clear speed bumps and steep mall ramps without the wince at every entrance. That isn't an invitation to leave the tarmac. This is front-wheel drive on road tyres, and it has no business on soft sand.
The boot holds 432 litres with the rear seats up, enough for two large suitcases and a soft bag for a DXB or DWC run, or a proper weekly grocery haul without stacking bags on the back seat. Fold the rear bench and the floor opens out for flatpack furniture or a bike. Five seats are fitted, and the back row comfortably takes two adults or three children buckled in, with a child seat required by RTA rules for anyone under four. Put a fourth adult back there alongside a full boot and the space gets tight, which is the honest ceiling on a car this length.

Running cost is where the Kicks quietly wins. Official combined economy is 6.1 litres per 100 km, and real Dubai driving, with the AC working hard and traffic stopping and starting, pushes that closer to 7. The 41-litre tank still returns roughly 500 to 600 km of city range, so a normal week of commuting and errands means one stop at the pump. Mileage is 250 km a day, which covers city life easily, and AED 0.5 for every kilometre past that, so a full day out to Hatta or the east coast is worth checking against the odometer first. Salik tolls and any RTA fines during the rental fall to the renter, as with any car here, and you'll need to be 25 to take the keys.
The AC decides comfort in July and August, and the Kicks' small cabin works in its favour. There's less air to chill than in a mid-size SUV, so it pulls a cabin that's been sitting at 45 degrees down to comfortable faster than a bigger crossover manages after the same wait. The front vents are strong, but there are no rear vents on this generation, so back-seat passengers get air pushed through from the front rather than their own supply. That's fine for one or two people and slower to reach a full row on the hottest afternoons. Park in shade where you can and the gap barely matters. The cabin trim is hard plastic rather than anything soft, standard for the class, but it's screwed together well.
Rent the Kicks 2024 if you're one or two people, or a couple with a young child, who want a compact crossover that parks where a full-size SUV can't and costs very little to keep fed. Commuters, residents settling into Dubai between cars, and couples handling malls, groceries and the odd airport run get everything they need from it, and few cars in this class run cheaper.
Size up if you're regularly carrying four adults with full luggage, or you want rear vents and more back-seat room for a family through a Dubai summer. A mid-size SUV costs a little more to feed but won't feel as strained with a full load. And if Hatta or the dunes are on the plan, this isn't the car for it. It's front-wheel drive on road tyres, built for tarmac, not sand. For a small, easy-to-park crossover that handles a Dubai week without fuss, the Kicks 2024 is hard to beat.
