Rent Nissan Kicks 2024 in Dubai

You've landed a job in Dubai, the apartment is sorted, and now you need wheels for the month before your salary clears and you decide whether to buy. That's the call the Nissan Kicks 2024 gets booked for more than any other. We rent it in Dubai and deliver it to your door in one to two hours, and it costs very little to keep moving through a week of commuting, grocery runs and the odd airport trip. This page is about one decision: whether the Kicks is enough car for your Dubai week, or whether one passenger too many means you should size up.

What it costs to run

The Kicks uses a 1.6-litre naturally aspirated four making 118 hp and 149 Nm, driving the front wheels through a CVT automatic. Official combined economy is 6.1 litres per 100 km. Real Dubai driving is thirstier than the brochure, because stop-and-go traffic and the AC running flat out push that closer to 7. Even so, this is one of the cheapest cars in our fleet to feed.

The tank holds 41 litres. In normal city use that's roughly 500 to 600 km between fills, so a week of commuting and errands usually means one visit to the pump, maybe two if you're driving in from the far suburbs every day.

Mileage is the other running cost worth reading before you book. The daily allowance is 250 km, which comfortably covers city life. Go over it and it's AED 0.5 per extra km, so a full day out to Hatta and back needs a little planning. For commuting and mall runs you'll rarely get near the cap. Salik tolls and any RTA fines fall to you, the renter, as they do with every rental here.

Space, seats and luggage

The boot is where the Kicks punches above its price. At 432 litres it takes two large suitcases and a soft bag for a DXB or DWC run without dropping the rear seats. Fold them down and the load bay opens right up for flatpack furniture or a bike.

Up front, two adults sit comfortably, and the raised seating gives the commanding view that makes people rent a crossover instead of a hatch. The back seat is fine for two adults on short hops or three children across. Put a fourth adult back there for a long airport run with everyone's cases aboard and it gets tight, and that's the honest limit of a car this size.

Parking is the other reason it earns its keep. At 4.3 metres long and 1.76 wide it drops into tight tower bays and mall multi-storey spaces that a full-size SUV has to wrestle with. The 200 mm of ground clearance clears speed bumps and steep mall ramps without a scrape, so you're not wincing at every entrance. Don't read that clearance as a desert tool, though. It's front-wheel drive on road tyres, happiest on tarmac and out of its depth on soft sand.

Cabin and Dubai heat

The AC is what matters here in July, and the small cabin works in your favour. Because there's less air to chill, it cools down fast after the car has been baking in a 48-degree car park, quicker than you'd manage in a big SUV. The front vents are strong.

There are no rear vents, so back-seat passengers rely on the air pushed through from the front. That's fine for two up front and one behind, slower to reach a full back row on the hottest afternoons. Park in shade where you can and it stops being an issue. The cabin trim is hard plastic and basic, which is what you'd expect at this price, but it's screwed together well and easy to live with for a week or a month.

Who should rent it, who should size up

Rent the Kicks if you're one or two people who want crossover height and genuinely low running costs for a week or a month of Dubai city driving. Commuters, solo residents between cars, and couples doing malls, groceries and the occasional airport run are exactly who it suits, and few cars cost less to keep fed.

Size up if you're regularly four adults with luggage, or a family that wants proper rear-seat room and rear vents through the summer. A larger crossover or a mid-size sedan will be more comfortable and barely thirstier. And if your plans include real off-road or dune driving, this isn't the car. It's a city crossover, and a good one, but the front-wheel drive keeps it on the blacktop.
