Need seven seats without paying SUV money? The Mitsubishi Xpander 2024 is the cheapest sensible way to do it, and we rent it across Dubai with 250 km a day included, so the school run, the airport pickup and a weekend out of town all sit inside one allowance. This is a proper 7-seat MPV on a small footprint, which is most of its appeal and the source of its honest limits. The 1.5-litre engine has to pull a full house, the third row is a kids-and-short-trips space, and the boot behind it nearly disappears. If that trade sounds wrong for your week, a 7-seat SUV is the size-up. The rest of this page helps you decide which side of that line you fall on.
The 1.5-litre petrol four makes 105 horsepower and 141 Nm through a four-speed automatic, front-wheel drive. With two or three aboard around the city, that's plenty. The car is light, the gearbox is unfussed, and you'll never feel short-changed on an errand run.
Load all seven plus bags and point it at Sheikh Zayed Road, and the picture changes. Overtaking needs planning, and a hard merge onto the E11 in traffic wants a firm right foot and patience. It cruises at 120 fine once it's there. It just doesn't leap. If most of your trips are city with the occasional light airport run, none of this will bother you. If you're regularly hauling seven adults across to Abu Dhabi, the small engine is the reason to look at something bigger.
This is the question that decides the rental, so here's the straight answer. The first two rows are genuinely roomy. Adults sit comfortably in the front and middle, headroom is good, and the middle bench slides. The third row is best treated as a kids' row or a short-hop adult perch. Two children ride happily back there. Two grown adults will manage twenty minutes to dinner and grumble after an hour.
The catch is luggage with all three rows up. With seven seated, the boot holds little more than a few soft bags. A single airport pickup with seven passengers and seven suitcases does not work in this car, and I'd rather tell you now than at the kerb. Fold the third row and it transforms: you get a deep, flat load bay that swallows a week's shopping, a pram, or a couple of large cases. So it's a five-seater with a huge boot most of the time, and a seven-seater with a tiny one when you need those extra seats. Plan around that and it's brilliant.
Dubai summers push past 45 degrees, and a parked Xpander gets properly hot. The good news for a three-row car is that it has rear roof vents feeding the back, not just front dashboard outlets, so the middle and third rows actually cool. From a baking start, give it a few minutes with the fan up before everyone's comfortable, which is normal for a cabin this size. For a budget MPV the cooling is honest and even across the rows, which matters far more with kids in the back than any luxury feature it lacks.
The 45-litre tank and a claimed 14 km/l look great on paper. In real Dubai driving, stop-start traffic and constant AC, expect closer to 10 to 11 km/l with a normal load, more on open highway. That still means you're filling up roughly once a week of city use, and petrol here is cheap, so running this car is light on the wallet.
Parking is one of its quiet strengths. At under 4.5 metres long it tucks into tight multi-storey bays and handles mall ramps and U-turns like the small car it basically is, which is rare for anything that seats seven. Ground clearance of 205 mm clears speed bumps and raised entrances without scraping. Two Dubai admin notes: Salik tolls and any RTA fines during your rental are billed to you, and seatbelts are required in every seat with proper child seats for under-fours. With kids in rows two and three, that last one is worth a thought before you load up.

Rent the Xpander if you're a family that lives most days as four or five and needs the extra two seats occasionally, or a group that wants seven seats cheaply for airport shuttles and around-town runs with light bags. It parks easily, costs little to fuel, and the AC keeps all three rows livable through a Dubai summer. That's a lot of practicality for the money.
Skip it and size up to a 7-seat SUV if your trip is seven adults plus full luggage, or long highway hauls with the cabin packed. The little 1.5 and the all-rows-up boot weren't built for that. Match the car to how full it'll actually be, and the Xpander rarely disappoints. We deliver it to your door in Dubai in one to two hours, so you can have it sorted today.
