Mitsubishi Xpander 2024 - start from 242 AED / day

Need a seven-seater for a weekend but a sensible runabout the rest of the week? We hand over the Mitsubishi Xpander 2024 across Dubai, often within an hour or two, and you can take it on the no-deposit option so a big chunk of cash isn't tied up while it sits on your card. That combination is the reason this MPV makes sense. It's an affordable people-mover that earns its keep on the days you actually need seven seats or a flat cargo bay, and stays a comfortable, easy daily the rest of the time. The catch is the small engine and the third-row trade-off, and we'll be straight about both.

What the Xpander really is

Think of it as a tall, roomy box on a compact footprint. At 4595 mm long it parks like a mid-size car, not a van, so multi-storey bays and the tighter Marina ramps don't become a wrestling match. The 1.5-litre petrol four pushes 105 HP through a 4-speed automatic and the front wheels. Nobody buys this for pace, and you shouldn't rent it for that either. What you get is a high seating position, light steering, and a cabin that swallows people and gear without feeling cramped.

The seats and boot, honestly

This is where the Xpander earns or loses you. With all three rows up, it carries seven, but the third row suits kids and shorter adults for short hops, not six-footers on a Hatta day trip. Behind that third row the boot is shallow, enough for a few soft bags or a grocery run, not a stack of hard suitcases.

The real trick is the folding. Drop the third row and you get a long, near-flat load floor that takes a big airport haul, a flat-pack from the furniture run, or a couple of bikes. So the honest picture is this: seven seats or a big cargo bay, rarely both at full size at once. For most families that's fine. Two adults and three kids ride with room to spare, and the third row folds away when the cases come out. If you regularly need seven adults plus their luggage on the same trip, this isn't your car, and a larger 7-seat SUV is the better call.

Living with it in Dubai heat

A tall cabin holds a lot of hot air after a few hours in an open lot, and the 105 HP engine drives a modest AC compressor, so expect the front vents to do the heavy lifting first. Give it a few minutes and the cabin pulls down to comfortable, but it won't slam cold the instant you turn the key the way a big SUV does. The win is that this Xpander has roof-mounted rear vents feeding the back rows, so kids in the second and third rows aren't left baking while the front seats cool. On a 45-degree afternoon, crack the windows for the first thirty seconds to dump the worst of the heat, then close up and let it work.

On the road and at the pump

Around town the Xpander is exactly what you want: light, easy to place, soft over speed bumps thanks to that 225 mm clearance. On Sheikh Zayed Road it cruises fine at the limit, but loaded with seven and their bags, the 105 HP and 4-speed auto feel stretched on an uphill overtake or a hard merge. Plan your pulls early and it's no drama. Just don't expect it to surge.

Economy is the quiet upside. Mitsubishi quotes 12 to 14 km/L in the city and 15 to 17 on the highway, and in real Dubai mixed driving with the AC fighting the heat you'll land toward the lower end of those. With a 45-litre tank that's roughly a week of normal city running between fills, and a DXB or DWC airport run won't have you hunting for a station. The total range works out to 600 to 765 km depending on how you drive.

A few Dubai rules to keep in mind

Salik tolls run off the car's tag and get billed to you, and any RTA fines during your rental are yours too, so stay off the hard shoulder and watch the speed cameras on the E11. Seatbelts are mandatory in every seat, including that third row, and children under four need a proper child seat, which we can add. None of this is unusual, but with seven belts in play it's worth a head count before you pull off.

Who should rent it

Rent the Xpander 2024 if you need seven seats some of the time and want a comfortable, cheap-to-run daily the rest, the kind of week where the school run, a grocery shop, and one big airport pickup all happen in the same car. Families of four or five with the occasional extra passenger are the sweet spot, and the folding cargo bay makes the furniture run or the bike trip painless.

Look elsewhere if you'll routinely carry seven full-size adults plus luggage, or if you want real pace and a punchy AC on the highway. For that, size up to a 7-seat SUV. But for the days you need the space without paying SUV money to have it sit empty, the Xpander is the smarter rental.
