Rent Mitsubishi Xpander 2024 in Dubai

A family of six or seven landing in Dubai for a week faces one blunt question before anything else: pay SUV money for three rows of seats, or split into two taxis and hope the luggage fits in either. The Mitsubishi Xpander 2024 settles that cheaply, since it is the least expensive genuine seven-seater we rent, and we bring it to your door within one to two hours of booking, cash or debit fine at handover. It is not quick and it is not plush, and this page will not pretend otherwise. What it does well is carry a full family through an ordinary Dubai week, city driving, mall runs, one or two longer trips, without the higher rate a bigger MPV charges for the same seven seats.

What's under the bonnet, and how it drives

The Xpander runs a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated four making about 105 hp and 141 Nm, sent to the front wheels only through a CVT automatic. There is no turbo, no hybrid help, and no all-wheel-drive version sold here, so treat the height as a parking advantage and nothing more. On paper that output is modest for a car built to carry seven, and on the road it drives exactly that modest: relaxed rather than eager. It sits at 100 to 120 km/h on Sheikh Zayed Road without strain, but a loaded overtake wants a clear stretch of road and some patience rather than a quick stab of the throttle. Point it up a highway ramp with all three rows full and you hear the CVT working to get there. None of this makes the cabin unpleasant. The steering is light and the ride is soft enough for the school run and mall traffic. It is just not a car you drive for the sake of driving. Book it as a people mover, not a machine you enjoy revving.

Seven seats, and the family week

The layout is two up front, three across the middle, two in the back, and that third row is real seating, not a pair of jump seats bolted in for the brochure. Kids and shorter adults ride there without complaint on a school run or an airport hop. Two tall adults back there on a long trip will feel it, which is the honest limit of a car this size at this price.

Luggage is the trade-off. With all seven seats up, the boot behind the third row holds around 160 litres, enough for a few soft bags or backpacks and not seven people's suitcases. Fold that third row down and the Xpander becomes a roomy five-seater with a real load bay, easily two large cases and some soft bags. Drop the middle row as well and you are close to 1,630 litres for a flatpack run or a bike. So the honest rule for a full car is seven passengers or a loaded boot, rarely both at the same time.

At 4,595 mm long and 1,750 mm wide, it takes up about as much road as a mid-size sedan despite the extra row, and that pays off at Marina tower ramps and older mall car parks where a full-size SUV has to shuffle back and forth. Ground clearance of 225 mm is generous for the class, so speed bumps near the villas and steep basement ramps pass without a scrape. A full cabin does take longer to cool than a small hatchback simply because there is more air to shift. The front vents pull the first two rows down quickly once you are moving. The third row lags behind them. Start the engine a few minutes before loading everyone in on the hottest afternoons, and park in shade or a basement when you can. It is a basic climate system built for a budget MPV, not a luxury one, but it copes with a full family through a Dubai summer.

The mileage terms, and running it

This rental includes 2,500 km for the whole booking, not per day, so the way you spend it changes with the length of the trip. Over a one-week rental that works out to roughly 350 km a day on average, which is plenty for city errands, school runs and the odd airport transfer. Book the Xpander for two weeks and the same 2,500 km has to stretch further, closer to 180 km a day, so a household planning several long weekend drives should keep a running tally rather than assume the allowance resets. Go past it and extra distance costs AED 1.0 per kilometre. Minimum age to take the keys is 25.

The tank holds 45 litres, and in real Dubai city driving with the AC working, that is roughly 500 to 600 km between fills. A normal week of school runs and errands usually means one stop at the pump, maybe two if you commute in from the far suburbs daily. Salik tolls and any RTA fines during the rental are the renter's responsibility, as with every car here, and under-fours need a proper child seat, worth arranging before pickup if the car will carry a full house of kids.

Who should rent it, and who should size up or down

Book the Xpander if the job is moving six or seven people around Dubai without paying for a bigger MPV. Visiting relatives, a family that would rather split one car than two taxis, a household that needs three rows for a week and no longer than that. For that brief, nothing else on the fleet seats seven for this little and costs this little to run.

Two situations point elsewhere. If you regularly carry seven adults and their bags at the same time, the small boot behind the third row will wear thin fast, and a bigger MPV such as a Kia Carnival or a Toyota Innova is worth the extra rate. If your week is built around long, fast highway stretches with a full load, the modest engine will feel stretched, so step up to something with more power under the bonnet. And if you are honestly only ever four people, a five-seat crossover costs less to rent, parks just as easily, and leaves you paying for seats you never fill. For a genuine seven-seat week on a tight budget, the Xpander does the one job it is built for, and does it without fuss.
