Rent the Mitsubishi Pajero 2022 in Dubai and you're getting one of the last of the proper old-school 4x4s: a body-on-frame, seven-seat diesel that was built to leave the tarmac and come back without complaint. We can have one at your door within one to two hours, no deposit needed to hold it. The decision this page settles is simple. The Pajero is for the renter whose week actually involves Hatta trails, firm desert tracks or a long inland run with a full car, not the one doing mall loops. Its turbodiesel and Super Select four-wheel drive are wasted on city errands, and its size and thirst punish you there. Match it to the right trip and little else at this rate does the job.
The Pajero is one of the few rentals here still built the honest way, with a ladder frame under the body and a serious four-wheel-drive system on top. That's the reason to book it. The 3.2-litre turbodiesel makes torque low down, which is exactly what you want climbing a rocky Hatta track or pulling through soft ground. The Super Select setup lets you switch between rear-wheel drive for the highway and locked four-wheel drive for the rough stuff, so you're not stuck in one mode all week.
Ground clearance is 235 mm, enough to clear ruts and rocks that would stop a crossover, and the diesel's low-rev pull means you're not thrashing the engine to keep moving on a climb. For real desert work you still deflate the tyres and know what you're doing, but the hardware is there. This is a car that shrugs off the kind of terrain most rentals can't legally go near.
| Spec | Mitsubishi Pajero 2022 |
|---|---|
| Class / body | SUV, 5-door |
| Seats | 7 |
| Engine | 3.2L turbodiesel |
| Power | 190 hp |
| Transmission | 5-speed automatic |
| Drive | Super Select four-wheel drive |
| Fuel tank | 88 litres |
| Fuel economy | approx. 9.9 L/100km combined |

| Dimensions (L x W x H) | 4900 x 1875 x 1900 mm |
| Ground clearance | 235 mm |
| Cargo | 1069 L (third row folded), 1789 L (all rear folded) |
| Colour | White |
The third row makes this a genuine seven-seater, but be realistic about it. The back two seats are best for kids or shorter adults on shorter trips, and putting them up eats most of your boot. Fold that third row and you've got 1069 litres, which handles a family's luggage plus camping kit for a Hatta weekend. Drop the second row too and it opens to 1789 litres, enough for moving-house loads.
For a full seven-up airport run to DXB with everyone's cases, something has to give, and a bag rides on a lap the same as in any three-row 4x4. Five or six passengers with luggage is the comfortable limit. Treat the third row as occasional-use seating and it does its job.
The diesel is the quiet advantage here. Figure on around 9.9 litres per 100 km in mixed driving, better than a petrol V8 SUV of similar size and far better on a long highway cruise. With the big 88-litre tank, that's a realistic combined range near 850 km, so a single fill covers a serious inland trip or most of a week's mixed use without you hunting for a station.
That range is the real reason the Pajero suits a Hatta or cross-emirate run. You fill once and go, rather than planning stops. In town the diesel is less charming, a bit clattery from cold and no one's idea of quiet, but out on the open road it settles into an easy, long-legged cruise.
Here's the honest catch. At 4.9 metres long and just under 1.9 wide, tall and heavy, the Pajero is a handful in Dubai's tighter spots. Marina basement ramps and older multi-storey bays ask for patience, the turning circle is large for quick U-turns, and squeezing into a standard mall bay leaves little door-swing room. The high clearance means speed bumps and steep ramps are never a worry, but valet-only car parks and narrow residential lanes are where you'll wish for something smaller.
On Sheikh Zayed Road it's stable and unbothered at 120, sitting tall and planted, though it leans in fast corners the way a body-on-frame 4x4 always has. This is a car happiest covering distance, not darting through traffic.
A cabin this tall and boxy holds a lot of hot air after a July soak, so give it time. The front air conditioning is strong and pulls the temperature down well once you're moving, and rear passengers get their own vents, which matters in a seven-seater carrying kids in the back. From a 45-degree park it takes a few minutes of fan on high to be comfortable throughout, longer than a small car because there's simply more space to cool. Once it's down, it holds temperature well even with every seat filled.
A couple of Dubai basics worth stating once. Salik tolls run on your account as you pass the gantries, and any RTA fines during the rental are yours. Child seats are required by law for under-fours, and we can fit one on request.
Rent the Pajero 2022 if your week has a real off-road or long-distance side to it: Hatta, desert tracks, a big group heading inland, or a family that wants seven seats and the confidence of proper four-wheel drive. For that brief it's tough, frugal on the diesel, and better value than the flashier full-size SUVs.
Skip it if you're one or two people on city errands, where the size, the diesel clatter and the parking hassle all count against it and a compact crossover does everything easier for less. And if you want seven seats mainly for road use with a smoother, more modern cabin, a car-based seven-seater like the Nissan X-Trail or a Patrol will feel more refined on tarmac. The Pajero's appeal is specific and physical: go anywhere, carry seven, cross the emirate on one tank. Book it for the trip it was built for.
