Mitsubishi Outlander 2024 - start from 266 AED / day

Most weeks the Mitsubishi Outlander 2024 works as a roomy five-seat SUV: two adults up front, three across a wide middle bench, a proper boot, and the height and hush that make a long Dubai commute easy. The third row is the occasional bonus, not the daily plan. That is the honest way to read this car, and it's why families in Dubai rent it when a five-seater feels a size too small but a full-size SUV is more than the week actually needs. We bring it to your door, usually within one to two hours of booking, with debit card or cash fine at handover. This page settles one thing: when those extra two seats earn their keep, and when you should size up instead.

Seats, passengers and where the luggage goes

Start with the third row, because it's the reason most people land on this page. The Outlander is a genuine seven-seater, but that back row is a kids' row. Small children buckle in fine for the school run or a hop across town. Adults can squeeze in for a short trip if you slide the middle bench forward, and then they'll want out. Read it as a five-seat SUV that gains two occasional seats, not a full seven-adult carrier.

The middle row is the strong part of the car. Three children fit across it, or two adults with real room to stretch, and it slides to trade a little legroom for third-row space when you need to. Up front, two adults get a high, settled driving position, which is half the reason people pick an SUV over a sedan here.

Luggage is where a three-row SUV makes you choose. With all seven seats up, there's about 163 litres behind the back row, which is a few soft bags and the shopping, not suitcases. Fold that third row and you're back to a large five-seat boot of around 478 litres, comfortably two big cases plus soft bags for a DXB or DWC run. Drop the middle row too and it opens to roughly 1,460 litres for flatpack furniture or a bike. So the real math for a full airport pickup is simple: seven people or a loaded boot, rarely both at once.

What a week behind the wheel costs

The Outlander's 2.5-litre four makes 181 hp and drives the front wheels through a CVT. That's a real step up from the budget seven-seaters, and you feel it. Loaded with a family and their bags, it still pulls onto Sheikh Zayed Road and completes an overtake without drama, so highway runs to Abu Dhabi or the airport are relaxed rather than a chore. The CVT hums when you push hard, but for normal Dubai driving it's smooth and quiet.

Fuel is the trade for that size and comfort. Mitsubishi's combined figure sits near 8 litres per 100 km, which is a lab number. A loaded SUV in Dubai stop-and-go with the AC flat out is realistically closer to 10 or 11. The tank holds 55 litres, so a normal week of city driving means a couple of visits to the pump, and fuel here is cheap enough that this rarely stings.

Mileage is the number to read before you book. You get 250 km a day included, which covers city family life with room to spare. Go past it and it's AED 0.5 for every extra kilometre, so a full day out to Hatta or Al Ain and back is worth a quick sum first. Salik tolls and any RTA fines during the rental fall to you, the same as with every car here, and child seats are required for under-fours. You'll need to be 25 to take the keys.

Keeping a mid-size cabin cool in July

Dubai summers push into the high 40s, and cabin size decides how the first few minutes feel. The Outlander has more air to chill than a small hatch but less than a full-size three-row SUV, so it lands sensibly in the middle. The front vents pull hard once the car's rolling, and the front two rows come good quickly.

The useful bit for families is the second-row air. Vents on the back of the console mean kids in the middle aren't waiting on cold air pushed all the way from the dash after the car's been baking in an open car park. The third row is the slowest corner to cool, which matters only if that's where a child is sitting on a July afternoon. Start the car and let it run a few minutes before everyone piles in, park in shade or a basement where you can, and the heat stops being a problem.

Who should rent it, and who should size up

Rent the Outlander if you're a family of four or five who wants a comfortable, higher-riding SUV for the daily grind, with two spare seats for the kids' friends, cousins or a grandparent now and then. It's happier on the highway than the cheaper seven-seaters, the middle row genuinely seats three, and the boot swallows an airport load once the third row is folded. For city weeks, school runs and the occasional full house, it's an easy call.

Two honest caveats. This is front-wheel drive, not the all-wheel drive the SUV shape hints at, and with around 210 mm of clearance it's a tarmac car. It clears speed bumps and steep mall ramps cleanly, but keep it off the soft sand. It's also wide at over 1.86 metres, so tight multi-storey bays and Marina ramps ask a touch more care than a compact crossover. And if you genuinely carry seven people plus their cases every day, or you want the back row usable for adults, size up to a larger body-on-frame SUV or a full MPV where the third row and boot both survive a full load. Need only five seats on a tighter budget? A smaller crossover does that job for less. The Outlander earns its rate when you actually use the space and the highway comfort, which, for most families renting one in Dubai, is exactly the point.
