We rent the Mitsubishi Outlander 2022 in Dubai from 18, which already sets it apart from most desks that won't hand a seven-seat SUV to anyone under 21. There's a no-deposit plan too, for a small fee, so a young family or a group splitting a holiday rental doesn't have to lock up a chunk of cash on a card. That's the practical case for this one: it's the cheapest sensible way to get seven seats and a high SUV view for a week here. The thing to get straight before you book is what those last two seats are really good for, and we'll lay that out plainly.
| Spec | Figure |
|---|---|
| Class / body | Midsize SUV, 7-seat |
| Seats | 7 (three rows) |
| Engine | 2.5L 4-cylinder petrol |
| Power | 181 hp |
| Transmission | CVT automatic |
| Drive | Front-wheel drive |
| Fuel economy | around 8.9 L/100km combined |
| Tank | 55 litres |
| Range | roughly 620 to 680 km |
| Dimensions (L x W x H) | 4,710 x 1,862 x 1,745 mm |
| Ground clearance | 211 mm |
| Boot (behind third row) | around 330 litres |
| Colours | Alloy Silver, Black Diamond, Cosmic Blue, Deep Bronze, Mercury Gray, Red Diamond, White Diamond, Labrador Black Pearl |
The 55-litre tank paired with roughly 8.9 litres per 100 km gives you a real-world range somewhere between 620 and 680 km, depending on how much of the week you spend crawling in Marina traffic versus cruising the E11. In plain terms, a normal Dubai week of school runs, mall trips and a couple of airport pickups is one fill, maybe a top-up before you hand it back. You're not building a fuel-station habit into your holiday. The CVT is tuned for economy over excitement, and in stop-and-go heat that's exactly what you want.
The first two rows are the real story. Two adults up front sit high and comfortable, and three across the middle is genuinely fine for kids or three average adults on a half-hour run. The third row is occasional seating, full stop. It lifts out of the boot floor and suits two kids on a short hop, a couple of extra cousins to the cinema, the overflow on a school pickup. Put a grown adult back there for a Hatta day trip and they'll be folded into their knees by the time you arrive.
The compromise is luggage. With all seven seats up, the boot is about 330 litres, enough for a few soft bags and the shopping, not a stack of hard cases. Fold the third row flat and it opens up properly for a family of five with a week's worth of cases. So most weeks you're choosing: five people and a full boot, or seven people and minimal bags. If you regularly need both at once, no midsize SUV does it, and a proper large seven-seater is the honest answer.
This is a tall SUV with a lot of glass, so parked at midday in August the cabin gets genuinely brutal. Crack the doors for a moment before you load anyone in. Once the AC is running, the front and middle vents pull the temperature down to comfortable within a few minutes, and there are rear vents so the second row isn't left to suffer. The third row sits furthest from the cold air, which is one more reason it's better for short trips than a long afternoon crawl with the sun on it. For a family with little ones in the middle row, those rear outlets matter more than any badge does.
At 4.71 metres it's a midsize SUV, so it slides into standard mall and tower bays without the breath-holding a full-size seven-seater puts you through. The turning circle handles the tighter U-turns around Marina well enough. With 211 mm of ground clearance it rides over aggressive community speed bumps and the steep lip on a basement ramp without a scrape, which is most of why families pick this shape in Dubai in the first place. The high seating position also helps you place it in traffic and judge the corners in a packed car park.
It's front-wheel drive, so treat it as a road and light-track SUV, not a dune machine. Firm graded tracks out toward the desert edges are fine, but soft sand is not its job, and if real off-roading is on your list you want a body-on-frame 4x4 instead. On the highway the comfort-led engine means overtaking takes a moment of planning rather than a sudden surge, so leave room on the E11 rather than expecting a kick. And one running-cost note worth stating once: you cover Salik tolls as you pass the gantries, and any RTA fines during the rental pass to you, so keep an eye on limits. Children under four need a proper child seat by law, which we can fit.
Rent the Outlander 2022 if you want the cheapest realistic seven-seater for the week, you're a family or a group that needs the third row now and then, and you're happy to treat it as occasional. It's the value pick of the range: high view, easy to park, light at the pump, and you can take it from 18 with no deposit if that suits. Skip it if you need a clear boot and a full third row at the same time every day, where a large seven-seater earns its keep, or if the plan is serious dune driving, where a 4x4 is the only honest call. For most Dubai families bouncing between the school gate, the mall and the airport, this is the sensible one to book.
