Mitsubishi ASX 2025 - start from 186 AED / day

If you want the higher seat and the SUV view but none of the bulk, the Mitsubishi ASX 2025 is the small crossover we'd point you at in Dubai, and we'll rent it to you from age 18 when most of the market makes you wait until 21. It's a five-seat compact SUV that sits you above the hatchback traffic, gives you a boot you can actually pack, and still tucks into the tight bays that defeat bigger cars. Our take: for a solo driver or a couple who want the view and the easy parking without paying for a large crossover, this is the value choice. Where it runs short is outright pace and a full house, and we'll be straight about both.

The view without the size

This is the decision the ASX is built around. At just over 4.3 metres it's barely longer than a family hatchback, so the daily grind of Dubai parking stays simple. It slots into the cramped bays of older Deira and Bur Dubai buildings and doesn't sweat the spiral ramps in Marina towers or the busy malls. The turning circle is tidy, so the endless U-turns don't become three-point affairs. What you gain over a hatch is the raised seat: you sit up, see over the bonnet, and judging the front bumper against a kerb or pillar stops being guesswork. That combination of a small footprint and a high view is the reason to pick this over a normal small car.

What you're actually renting

The current ASX is a five-seat compact SUV with a 2.0-litre petrol four and an automatic gearbox, driving the front wheels only. That last part matters and most listings leave it out. There's no all-wheel drive, so treat it as a tall, comfortable city car rather than anything for soft sand. The 150 hp is enough to keep up with traffic and merge onto a busy road without fuss, but it's a relaxed engine, not a quick one. Around town it feels light and willing. Ask it to sprint and it takes its time, which is the honest trade for the low rate.

Does your luggage fit

The boot is 358 litres, a usable shape rather than a headline number. One large suitcase and a couple of soft bags go in with the parcel shelf still up, which covers a week for two people on the airport-and-mall routine. Drop the rear seats and you free a long, flat load space for a flat-pack run or a big grocery haul. For a short DXB or DWC hop with two travellers and their cases, the ASX is the right size. Load it with four adults and four hard cases for a full airport pickup and it gets tight fast, which is the moment to size up.

Heat and the AC in July

A parked car in a Dubai summer is an oven, and a 45-degree afternoon has the ASX's cabin uncomfortable within minutes. The air conditioning is strong for the class. Give it two or three minutes with the fan up and the front vents pull the temperature down to liveable, then hold it cold on the motorway without straining. The cabin is small enough that there's less air to cool than in a big SUV, which works in your favour. Rear passengers sit close to the front vents, so a couple in the back stays comfortable even without a separate rear control.

On Sheikh Zayed Road

The ASX is comfortable cruising at the E11 limit. Sit it at 100 to 120 and it's settled and quiet enough, and the AC keeps pace with the heat. Where it shows its budget roots is the overtake at speed. There's not much in reserve above 120, so plan your passes early rather than expecting a sudden surge. None of that bites on the commute, the airport run or the weekend drive across town. If your week is mostly long, fast highway stints with a full car, a stronger crossover or a midsize sedan will feel less stretched.

Fuel is one of the ASX's better arguments. The 63-litre tank and a real-world figure around 7.5 litres per 100 km mean it stretches comfortably past 700 km on mixed driving, closer to 800 if you're gentle on the highway. Heavy city stop-start drinks a bit more, but you're still looking at one fill for most of a rental week rather than hunting for a station every few days.

A few Dubai basics

Worth stating plainly: Salik tolls and any RTA fines during your rental are the driver's responsibility, so keep to the limits and watch the gantries. Ground clearance of around 205 mm is plenty for speed bumps, mall lips and high villa kerbs, but with front drive and road tyres, desert tracks and Hatta's rougher trails are out. Seat belts are required in every seat, and a child under four needs a child seat.

Who should rent it, and who shouldn't

Rent the ASX 2025 if you're one or two people who want a higher seat, easy parking and a low running cost for city errands, the commute and light airport runs. It's one of the cheaper sensible ways to get an automatic SUV with a real boot, and the 250 km a day allowance covers normal Dubai driving without a thought. Size up to a larger crossover or a sedan if you're regularly four adults with full luggage, if you spend most of your week pushing hard on the highway, or if you actually want to leave the tarmac. For the solo driver and the couple it's aimed at, the ASX does what it promises and asks for very little in return.
