Mitsubishi ASX 2023 - start from 151 AED / day

Want a small SUV that sits you up high, costs little to run, and tucks into any Dubai parking bay without a fight? That's the Mitsubishi ASX 2023, and we rent it across Dubai with 250 km a day included on every booking. It's a frugal compact crossover built for a solo driver or a couple who want crossover looks and a raised view without the fuel bill or the bulk of a full-size SUV. This page is about whether that trade works for your week here, and where the ASX runs out of road.

Why the ASX makes sense for city weeks

The case for this car is simple. You get the higher seating position and the chunky SUV stance people like, on a footprint barely longer than a regular hatchback. At 4,365 mm long and 1,770 mm wide, it slips into tight multi-storey bays and Marina ramps that make a bigger crossover sweat. The 2.0-litre is mild rather than quick, which suits a renter who mostly does errands, school runs, and short hops rather than long highway hauls.

Fuel is the other half of the argument. The ASX sips compared to thirstier SUVs, so a week of city driving doesn't mean constant trips to the pump. For one or two people who want to feel a bit taller in traffic while keeping running costs down, it does the job.

The numbers are the reference. What follows is how they play out on Dubai roads.

Parking, bumps and the daily grind

This is where the ASX earns its keep. It's a compact car wearing an SUV body, so the bits that frustrate drivers in bigger crossovers mostly don't apply here. Mall multi-storeys, tight residential bays, the squeezed ramps around the Marina, all manageable. Reversing into a bay between two parked cars is a non-event because you can see the corners.

Ground clearance is 195 mm, plenty for Dubai's speed bumps and the lipped entrances to underground car parks. You won't scrape on a steep mall ramp, and the raised ride means you spot road furniture earlier than in a low hatch. Light steering makes U-turns easy, and the car feels smaller than its mirrors suggest once you're used to it.

On Sheikh Zayed Road, be realistic

Here's the honest part. The 2.0-litre makes 150 hp and pairs with a CVT, which is fine for getting up to the limit and cruising, but it's a relaxed engine, not an eager one. Around town it's smooth and quiet enough. Push hard for an overtake at speed on the E11, or load it with passengers and bags up a long on-ramp, and you'll hear the engine work while the response stays gentle.

For steady cruising in the right lane at 100 to 120, the ASX is comfortable and settled. If your week is mostly motorway miles with four adults aboard, you'll want something with more pull. Treat this as a city-and-suburb car that handles the occasional highway run, and it never disappoints.

Fuel, tank and how often you'll stop

The ASX returns around 7.4 L/100km combined, though Dubai's heat and stop-start traffic push real figures a little higher in practice. With the 63-litre tank, that still works out to a comfortable range in the region of 700 km on mixed driving. For most renters that means filling up roughly once across a normal week, maybe twice if you're clocking long days. Compared to a thirsty mid-size SUV, the saving across seven days is real and noticeable.

Heat, cabin and luggage

Dubai summers sit in the mid-40s, and a parked ASX cooks like any car here. The AC pulls the cabin down at a sensible pace because the interior is compact, so there's less air to chill than in a large SUV. Front vents do the heavy lifting and cool the two front occupants quickly. There are no fancy climate extras, so park in shade where you can and give it a few minutes before you expect comfort on a brutal afternoon.

The boot holds 406 litres, enough for a couple of large cases plus a soft bag, or the weekly shop with room to spare. That makes the ASX a tidy choice for a DXB or DWC airport pickup when it's one or two people travelling. Fold the rear seats and there's proper space for bulkier loads. For four adults each with a full suitcase it gets tight, and that's the moment to size up.

The cabin shows its age next to newer rivals, with plain plastics and basic rather than slick tech. None of that matters much for a short rental where cost, visibility and easy parking come first, but go in expecting function over flair.

A few Dubai rules to keep in mind: Salik tolls and any RTA fines during the rental are the renter's responsibility, and seatbelts are mandatory for every passenger. We deliver the car to your door across the city, usually within a couple of hours.

Who should rent it, and who shouldn't

Rent the ASX 2023 if you're a solo driver or a couple who want a high-set, easy-to-park crossover that keeps fuel bills low for a week of city errands and light airport runs. It's frugal, friendly in tight spaces, and undemanding to live with. That's its lane and it's good at it.

Look elsewhere if you regularly carry four adults with luggage, plan long fast highway stints, or want a modern cabin and strong overtaking punch. This is front-wheel drive only, so it's not for desert tracks or Hatta trails either. For city life on a budget, though, the ASX is an easy yes.
