Rent Mitsubishi ASX 2022 in Dubai

The Mitsubishi ASX 2022 comes with one of the larger mileage allowances in its class: 4,500 km built into the whole rental, not counted day by day. That number is genuinely generous for a week or two of Dubai driving, and most renters notice it first. What gets missed is the other half of the policy. Cross that allowance and every extra kilometre costs AED 3, a steep rate next to what some cars nearby in this class charge. What's under the bonnet, and how it drives

Mitsubishi keeps the ASX simple under the bonnet: a 2.0-litre naturally aspirated four cylinder with MIVEC valve timing, sending 150 hp and 197 Nm to the front wheels through a CVT automatic. There's no turbo to manage and no hybrid system to learn, just a conventional engine and gearbox pairing Mitsubishi has run in this shape for years. On the move that shows up as unhurried confidence rather than urgency. The ASX takes its time building speed, but once it's rolling at 120 km/h on Sheikh Zayed Road it sits comfortably, and the CVT stays quiet unless you ask it to work hard on an overtake, where it drones the way most CVTs do under load.

A higher grade of this generation is offered with all-wheel drive elsewhere in the GCC lineup, but the version we hand over is front-wheel drive, which covers what a Dubai rental week actually needs: predictable grip on tarmac and nothing unusual to explain at handover. If you want a punchier city SUV, this isn't it. If you want something that just works every time you turn the key, it is.

Boot, back seat and the daily load

The boot holds 358 litres, which in practice means one large suitcase and a couple of soft bags, or a full week's grocery shop without folding anything down. Two hard-shell cases for a full DXB or DWC airport pickup is a squeeze. Drop the rear seats and it goes in easily, or put one case in the boot and a second case on the back seat next to a light passenger.

Up front, two adults sit at a slightly raised, comfortable position, which is half the reason people choose a small SUV over a hatchback. The back seat is genuinely fine for two adults on a normal trip, or two kids with a booster between them. Add a third adult back there and the width becomes obvious fast. It works for a short hop across town, not for anything longer.

At 4,355 mm long, the ASX is compact enough for tight multi-storey bays and mall ramps, and ground clearance of about 195 mm clears speed bumps and steep ramps without a scrape. It rides on road tyres though, so treat that clearance as a city advantage, not a Hatta ticket.

Cabin size works in your favour on a Dubai afternoon too. There isn't much air to chill, so the AC gets ahead of a car that's been sitting in the sun fairly fast once you're moving. The first minute after climbing back into one that's been parked at 45 degrees is still uncomfortable, the same as almost anything this size, so crack a window before you get in if you can.

The mileage math, and why it matters here

This is where the ASX 2022's policy needs a proper look before you book, not after. You get 4,500 km across the whole rental, not a daily cap, which for a couple doing a week or two of city driving, malls, the school run, the odd trip to the airport, is a lot of room. Most renters on a one or two-week booking won't come close to using it.

The catch is what happens if you do. Cross the 4,500 km line and every additional kilometre costs AED 3, which is steep next to the AED 0.5 you'll find on some other cars in this class. Stack a few return runs to Abu Dhabi or Al Ain onto a city-driving week and 100 km over the limit adds AED 300 to the bill without much drama showing on the odometer. Work out your planned trip against that allowance before you sign, not when the invoice arrives.

Fuel is the smaller worry by comparison. Combined economy sits around 8 L/100km, closer to 9 in stop-start city traffic and closer to 7 once you're holding a steady highway speed, and the 63-litre tank turns that into roughly 550 to 600 km of mixed Dubai driving before you need a pump. Salik tolls and any RTA fines during the rental are the renter's responsibility, as with every car here, and the minimum age to take the keys on the ASX is 25, worth checking if you're close to that line.

Who should rent it, and who should size up

Rent the ASX 2022 if you're planning a week or two of ordinary Dubai driving: city errands, highway commuting, the occasional day trip, and you want the reassurance of a mileage allowance that covers nearly all of it upfront. Its plainness under the bonnet is the point. There's nothing to learn and nothing to worry about, and a boot and back seat that handle two people's daily life without complaint.

Size up if your plans genuinely involve stacking long-distance days, several runs to Abu Dhabi, Al Ain or Hatta inside one rental, where the AED 3 overage rate adds up fast. A car with a cheaper per-kilometre rate or a larger daily cap suits that pattern better. Size down if it's one person doing light errands around town, since a compact hatch does that job for less rental and less fuel, and you won't miss the extra height. For a couple or small family whose week stays mostly local, the ASX's mileage allowance is one of the more generous in its class, and it pays to use it rather than test what's on the other side of it.
