MG ZS 2025 - start from 219 AED / day

Order an MG ZS 2025 in Dubai before lunch and the car is usually on your street inside one to two hours, with no deposit held and a debit card accepted at the door. We also rent it from age 18, which most desks in the city will not do. One thing is worth knowing before it arrives. MG changed this car partway through 2025, so a 2025 ZS in the UAE is either the outgoing model or the all new one that reached GCC showrooms in March. On size, boot and running cost they land within a few percent of each other. On gearbox they do not, and that is the part you notice all week.

Two gearboxes wear the same badge

Both cars use a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder, and the outputs are close enough to ignore: 113 hp and 150 Nm in the outgoing car, 112 hp and 150 Nm in the new one. What sits behind that engine is the real difference. The older car has a four-speed torque converter automatic, which is one or two ratios short of almost everything else on the road now. The newer car has a CVT.

In traffic you would struggle to tell them apart. Both pull cleanly away from a light and neither asks anything of you on a Business Bay crawl. The split shows up when you want speed quickly. The four-speed has big gaps between its ratios, so a hard press means a long drop and a noisy climb before the car moves. The CVT has no steps at all, so it responds faster but sits at one high, droning engine note until you back off. Neither is unpleasant once you know which one you have.

The honest verdict on both is the same. At roughly 150 Nm this is not a quick car, and the way to drive it on Sheikh Zayed Road is to pick your gap early and commit rather than improvise a late overtake. Sit in the middle lane at 120 and it is settled, quiet and completely happy. There is a turbocharged version in the ZS range, but at this class and this rate you are getting the naturally aspirated 1.5, and either car drives its front wheels only. Soft sand and unsealed desert tracks are somebody else's rental.

Living with it for a week

The newer car is 116 mm longer, at 4430 mm against 4314 mm, and about a centimetre wider. In practice that costs you nothing except in the very tightest second basements, where the older one slots in with a bit more room to spare. Both have upright glass and a short bonnet you can judge from the driver's seat, so reversing into a slot between two carelessly parked SUVs takes one attempt in either.

Luggage is close enough that it should not decide anything. Call it about 445 litres behind the rear seats whichever car turns up, which swallows two large hard cases upright with a soft bag pushed alongside. That covers a family of four landing with a week of clothes. Drop the bench and you are into four figures, comfortably enough for a flat-pack run. The limit is four adults each with a full check-in case, and at that point book a sedan or something a size up.

Fuel is where the newer car pulls ahead on paper, with a claimed 16.3 km per litre against 14.1 for the outgoing one. Real Dubai driving flattens that gap. Expect 10 to 12 km per litre in city traffic with the air conditioning working hard, in either car. Both hold 48 litres, so a normal week of school runs, errands and one airport pickup fits into a single fill. Our rate includes 300 km a day and it is AED 0.5 for each kilometre past that, which almost nobody reaches on a city week.

Two costs sit with you rather than us. Salik charges to your account each time you pass a gantry, and any RTA fine issued during the rental period passes to you. Children under four need a proper child seat, and we can fit one before delivery if you tell us in advance.

The first ten minutes after it has been parked in the sun

Nothing in this class beats physics. Leave the ZS on an open floor at midday in August and the first minute inside is genuinely unpleasant, steering wheel included. What follows is better than you might expect, because the cabin is small and there is not much air to move. Run the fan flat out with the windows cracked for the first half minute to push the hot air out, and it is bearable within three or four minutes and properly cold by ten. Our cars in this line are white, which is not a small thing when the alternative is a dark roof soaking up a Dubai afternoon.

The row worth asking about is the back one. Rear air vents are not fitted to every version of the outgoing car, and if you are running kids through a summer afternoon the difference between a dedicated vent and air pushed back from the front is real. Ask us at delivery and we will tell you what the specific car has.

The renter this one is right for

Rent the MG ZS 2025 if your week is city driving, school runs, mall car parks and a couple of airport runs, and you want a raised seating position with a boot that outclasses the rate. Against the Geely Coolray it wins clearly on luggage, roughly 445 litres against about 330, and loses just as clearly on cabin quality, screen tech and pace. If those matter more to you than boot space, spend the extra on a Coolray or a Haval Jolion.

Skip it if your days are built around fast highway distance and instant overtakes, or if you are moving four adults with full luggage. And if the gearbox is something you care about, tell us when you book. We will confirm which of the two cars you are getting rather than let you find out in the driveway.
