We hand over the MG ZS 2024 with 250 km a day already on the clock, so a week of Dubai errands rarely has you watching the odometer. It rents across Dubai, and the reason it books out is simple. You get a real subcompact SUV, the higher seat and the bigger boot, on a budget that usually buys a plain hatchback. This page is about who that actually suits. For a solo driver or a couple doing city runs and the odd airport pickup, it's a smart pick. For four adults loading the highway with luggage, you'll want to read the honest bits below before you commit.
The ZS is an economy-class SUV with five seats and a 1.5-litre petrol engine driving the front wheels through an automatic gearbox. Power sits around 110 hp, which tells you how it behaves. Around town it's relaxed, light to steer and easy to place. Push it onto an open road with the AC blasting and three passengers aboard and it works for its living. There's no four-wheel drive and no off-road pretension here, so treat it as a tall, comfortable city car rather than a desert tool.
What you get for the money is the kit. A touchscreen, a reversing camera, a raised driving position that makes Dubai's lane-changing less stressful, and a cabin that's plain but built to take daily rental abuse. The plastics are budget-grade and nobody will mistake it for German. For a week of getting around, none of that matters.
| Spec | MG ZS 2024 |

| Power | 110 hp |
| Transmission | Automatic |
| Drive | Front-wheel drive |
| Seats | 5 |
| Fuel economy | About 14 km/l (mixed city use) |
| Tank | 55 litres |
| Range | Roughly 700 km on a tank |

| Ground clearance | 160 mm |
| Boot | 359 litres, seats up |
| Colours | White confirmed in our fleet |
The boot holds 359 litres with the back seats up, which is genuinely useful for this class. Two large suitcases plus a couple of soft bags go in without a fight, which covers most couples flying into Dubai for a week. Drop the rear seats and you free up enough flat space for an Ikea run or a full week's grocery haul. Where it tightens is the four-adults-and-everyone's-cases scenario. Fill all five seats and the boot shrinks to carry-on territory, so a group heading to DXB with full check-in bags should size up to a sedan with a deep trunk.
This is where the ZS earns its keep. At just over 4.3 metres long it slots into the tight multi-storey bays around the Marina and the malls without the usual three-point shuffle, and the reversing camera takes the guesswork out of a tight reverse. The 160 mm of clearance handles speed bumps and steep mall ramps cleanly, so you're not wincing every time the car dips into a basement car park. U-turns are tidy and the light steering makes the supermarket grind painless. If most of your driving is short hops across the city, few cars this affordable are easier to live with.
Dubai summers sit in the high 40s, and a budget SUV parked in the open turns into an oven. The ZS pulls a baked cabin down at a fair pace, helped by the modest interior volume, and the front vents are strong enough to make the first few minutes bearable. Expect a couple of minutes before it's properly cold, which is normal for anything in this bracket. There are no rear air vents, so back-seat passengers rely on the air pushed through from the front. For two people up front that's a non-issue. Carry rear passengers regularly in July and they'll feel it on a long drive.
Around the city the 1.5 is fine. The honesty kicks in on the E11 and Sheikh Zayed Road. At a steady cruise the ZS holds 120 happily enough, but overtaking at speed asks for planning. The automatic kicks down and the engine gets vocal before much happens, so leave yourself room rather than expecting an instant surge. For airport transfers to DXB or DWC and the usual run of city motorway driving, it does the job. If your week is mostly long highway stints between emirates with a full car, a more powerful crossover will feel a lot less stretched.
You're looking at roughly 14 km/l in mixed Dubai driving, which holds up well given the AC runs flat out for half the year. The 55-litre tank gives you somewhere near 700 km between fills, so a week of city errands realistically means one stop, maybe two if you're commuting across town daily. That's part of the appeal. The low rate is one thing, but the ZS doesn't quietly claw it back at the pump.
A few Dubai practicalities to keep in mind. Salik tolls and any RTA fines during your rental are the driver's responsibility, and seat belts are mandatory in every seat. None of that is specific to this car, but it's worth knowing before you set off.
Rent the MG ZS 2024 if you're a solo driver or a couple who wants the higher view, the easy parking and a usable boot without paying crossover money. It's well suited to city errands, mall runs and light airport pickups, and it sips fuel doing it. Look elsewhere if you regularly carry four adults with luggage, spend most of your time at highway speed, or want anything resembling off-road ability. For the renter it's built for, though, it's one of the most sensible-value SUVs we hand over.
