Shopping a small SUV in Dubai usually means weighing the MG ZS 2024 against a Hyundai Creta or a Kia Seltos, and that comparison is the honest place to start. We rent the ZS across the city, deliver it to your door in one to two hours, and include 250 km a day with nothing charged on the distance after that. The case for it is plain: you get a turbocharged five-seat crossover, the higher seat and a willing engine, at a rate that usually undercuts the better-known badges. What you give up is cabin polish and a long-term reputation, and this page is about whether that trade works for your week.
A Creta or a Seltos feels a step up inside, with softer materials and a slicker screen, and they hold their value better if that ever mattered to a renter. It doesn't, on a one-week booking. What the ZS 2024 gives you for less is the same practical shape and a 1.5-litre turbo making 156 hp, which is more muscle than the entry versions of either rival carry. For city errands, school runs, and the odd airport pickup, you're paying for space and pace, not for the badge on the grille. If the interior finish is what decides it for you, spend the extra. If the rate decides it, the ZS makes a strong case.

The turbo is the part that earns the rivalry. It pulls cleanly from low revs and doesn't run out of breath the way naturally aspirated economy cars do, so pulling into traffic and getting up to pace feels easy rather than strained. On Sheikh Zayed Road it settles into a 120 cruise without fuss and has enough in reserve for a confident overtake. Where the budget shows is the cabin: hard plastics, a screen that lags the slicker systems, nothing that feels expensive. None of that hurts you on a week of driving, but it's the gap you're trading for the lower rate.
The boot holds 359 litres with the back seats up, which is genuinely useful for the class. Two large suitcases plus a couple of soft bags go in without a fight, enough for most couples flying in for a week. Drop the rear bench and you free up to around 1166 litres, plenty for a furniture run or a full grocery shop. The limit is a full car. Five aboard and the boot shrinks to carry-on size, so a group of four heading to DXB or DWC with check-in bags should look at a sedan with a deeper trunk.
Dubai summers sit in the high 40s, and a budget SUV parked in the open turns into an oven. The ZS pulls a baked cabin down at a fair pace, helped by the modest interior volume, and the front vents are strong enough to make the first couple of minutes bearable. Expect a few minutes before it's properly cold, which is normal for anything in this bracket. If you're carrying rear passengers regularly in July, check the airflow to the second row when we hand the car over, since cars at this price don't all push much air back there.
At just over 4.3 metres the ZS slots into the tight multi-storey bays around the Marina and the malls without the usual shuffle, and the raised seat helps you read the corners. The 145 mm of clearance handles speed bumps cleanly, though the sharper basement ramps want a slow approach. A few practicalities to hold before you set off: Salik tolls run on your account as the renter, any RTA fines during the rental pass to you, seat belts are mandatory in every seat, and a child seat is required for under-fours, which we can arrange.
Rent the MG ZS 2024 if you want most of what a Creta or Seltos offers, the space, the height, and a turbo that actually moves, at a rate that leaves money in your pocket. It suits a solo driver or a couple doing city runs and light airport pickups, and the doorstep delivery and generous mileage make it easy to get going. Pay up for a rival if cabin finish or brand reassurance sit near the top of your list, or size up to a sedan if you regularly carry four adults with full luggage. For the value-minded renter, the ZS is one of the more sensible picks we keep on the fleet.
