Mg Rx9 2025 - start from 589 AED / day

We rent the MG RX9 2025 across Dubai with 250 km a day built into the rate, which is the first thing worth knowing if your week involves school runs, mall trips and a couple of airport collections rather than a single short hop. This is MG's largest three-row SUV, a seven-seater with a high driving position and a long kit list, and the reason families keep booking it is plain: you get the space and the equipment of a big-badge SUV for a good deal less. The question this page settles is whether that trade makes sense for you, or whether your week actually needs something else.

What you're getting for the size

The RX9 is a proper full-size SUV. At 4983 mm long and 1967 mm wide it sits in the same footprint as a Toyota Highlander or a Hyundai Palisade, and inside it feels like it. Three rows, soft-touch surfaces, a big central screen and the kind of seat that swallows a long drive without complaint. People who've only known MG from the small hatchbacks are usually surprised by how solid the cabin feels.

The badge being unfamiliar matters far less on a rental than it would on a purchase. You're not living with resale value or a ten-year ownership question. You're driving it for a week, and for that week the RX9 gives you more car for the money than the established names parked next to it on our lot.

The table is the reference. The rest of this page is what those numbers mean for a week in Dubai.

Does my family and luggage actually fit

Seven seats, yes, but be honest about how you'll use them. The first two rows are genuinely roomy. Two adults up front, three across the middle, no one complaining. The third row is real, not a token, and that's the RX9's strong card against smaller crossovers that pretend to have seven seats. Kids will sit back there happily for a cross-town drive. Adults will manage a short airport run but won't thank you for an hour on the highway.

Luggage is the catch most families miss. With all three rows up, the boot behind the back seats is modest, enough for soft bags and a couple of backpacks, not a full set of hard cases. Drop the third row and it opens up to a wide, flat load space that takes a big grocery shop, strollers, or two large suitcases with room over. So the realistic setup is five people plus proper luggage, or seven people plus hand baggage. If you genuinely need seven adults and a week of full-size cases at the same time, you're asking too much of any single SUV in this class.

Heat, AC and the cabin

A parked car in a Dubai July is brutal, and a cabin this size holds a lot of hot air. The RX9's air conditioning is up to it. Front output is strong, and there are vents feeding the second and third rows, which is what you want when kids are sitting at the back. Give it five to ten minutes from a sun-baked start before it's genuinely cold throughout, longer than a small hatch needs simply because there's more volume to cool. Park in shade or a basement when you can and the first push is far quicker. For everyday running between cooled buildings, it keeps everyone comfortable without drama.

Driving it in Dubai

The 2.0-litre turbo makes 204 hp through a 9-speed automatic, and that's enough rather than abundant. On Sheikh Zayed Road it cruises calmly at the limit and has the pull to complete an overtake when you plan it. Ask for a hard, sudden surge with seven people aboard and you'll feel the turbo four working to move a heavy body. It's a relaxed motorway companion, not a quick one, and for a family hauler that's the right priority.

Size is the thing to respect around town. This is a wide car. Marina parking structures, older mall bays and tight multi-storey ramps all demand attention, and you'll use the cameras and sensors more than you would in a compact. U-turns need a moment's thought. The high seating helps you place it and gives the commanding view that buyers in this class want. Take the speed bumps slowly when you're loaded, and you'll have no issues.

For the desk-honest bits: you pay the Salik tolls on your route, and any RTA fines during the rental come back to you, so watch the speed cameras on the open roads. Seatbelts are required in every seat, and children under four need an appropriate child seat, which is easy to add.

Fuel and how often you'll stop

The 70-litre tank is a real advantage for the way people drive here. Official combined economy lands around 8.5 litres per 100 km, but plan for low-double-digit consumption in real Dubai use, with the AC running flat out and city traffic doing what it does. Even so, a full tank comfortably covers several days of normal driving, so most weeks you're looking at one fuel stop rather than a chore every other morning. On a longer highway leg it's more efficient than around town, as you'd expect.

Off the tarmac

The all-wheel-drive system and high stance handle a hard-packed desert track, a beach access road or a graded trail to a campsite without fuss. That covers what most visitors mean by off-road. What it does not do is serious dune driving. The RX9 is a road SUV with light all-surface ability, not a body-on-frame 4x4 built to be aired-down and thrown across soft sand. Try the big dunes in it and you'll get stuck and risk damage. If real desert is the plan, rent a Land Cruiser or a Wrangler and leave the RX9 for the school run and the airport.

Who should rent it, and who shouldn't

Book the RX9 if you're a family of five to seven who wants big-SUV space, a high view and a generous kit list at a rate well under the established badges, and your week is city driving with the occasional graded trail. For that brief it's hard to beat on value, and the unfamiliar badge costs you nothing over seven days.

Look elsewhere in two cases. If your trip is built around dune bashing or remote desert, get a proper body-on-frame 4x4. And if you only ever carry two or three people with no third-row need, you're paying to move size you won't use, and a mid-size SUV or a large sedan will be cheaper to fuel and easier to park. For everyone in between who needs the seats and the space, the RX9 is the sensible large-family choice on the lot.
