That timing matters more with this car than most, because the people booking it usually arrive as a group, and the group is usually already standing on a kerb next to a trolley of bags. This is MG's largest three-row SUV, just under five metres long, and it rents for a fraction of what the familiar big badges cost. What this page settles is how many of those seven seats your week can genuinely use at once.

One cargo number, and what it leaves out

MG publishes a single figure for the RX9's load space: 1,026 litres. It does not say which row that was measured behind, and no UAE listing breaks it down either. Read it as the number with the third row folded, because nothing shaped like this holds a thousand litres behind a back seat that is still upright.

That splits the luggage answer in two. With all seven seats in use you have a usable shelf rather than a boot, fine for a big grocery run, a folded pushchair, backpacks and soft holdalls stood on end. It will not take four hard cases. Drop the third row and the picture changes completely, into a wide, flat, deep floor across a 2,915 mm wheelbase that takes three or four large suitcases without any stacking or wrestling.

So the arrivals maths runs one of two ways. Five or six people with a full week of luggage and the back row down, which the RX9 does better than almost anything at this rate, or seven people carrying cabin bags. Seven adults and seven big cases at once is not something this class does.

Which of the seven seats you would put an adult in

At 4,983 mm long this is a genuinely full-size SUV rather than a stretched compact with a token bench at the back, and the third row is where that shows. Two adults will take a cross-town run or an airport hop back there without much complaint, which is more than the 4.7-metre seven-seaters manage.

The middle row is still the better seat, and it is where anyone facing an hour in the car should sit. Three across works for a Dubai-length trip, and the long wheelbase means nobody is negotiating for knee room.

Belts are required in every seat including the back row, and anyone under four needs a proper child seat. If the youngest was your plan for the third row, sort that at booking rather than at the kerb.

Paying for a week of it

The 70-litre tank is the friendly part. UAE listings claim around 9 km/L in town and 12 km/L on the open road, which puts a full tank near 630 km of city driving. Load seven people in, run the AC hard through July and sit in the evening queue toward Downtown, and you will land under that, closer to 8 km/L. For a normal week of school runs, mall trips and one airport collection, budget a tank and a half. That is reasonable for two tonnes of seven-seater.

Mileage is 300 km a day, and anything past that is AED 0.5 per kilometre. City families rarely get near it, so the allowance only becomes a live number on an Abu Dhabi run or a full day out toward Hatta. Cooling a cabin this size in August

There is a lot of air in a three-row SUV and a lot of glass over it, so a car left in an open lot since morning takes longer to pull down than a hatchback does. The front vents are strong and the rear rows get their own outlets, but the third row is the last place to feel properly cold, by a few minutes. Open the doors for half a minute before anyone climbs in, run the fans high rather than the temperature low at first, and put the smallest passengers in the back only once the cabin has caught up. Basement parking solves most of this, and at 1,786 mm the RX9 clears standard height barriers.

Nearly two metres wide, and what that costs you

Width is where you feel the size. At 1,967 mm across, older Marina and mall bays get tight enough that you will be climbing out carefully, and the surround-view camera stops being a gadget and becomes the reason you park first time. At just under five metres long, U-turns on the narrower city roads need planning rather than optimism.

On the E11 it is settled and quiet. The 2.0-litre turbo makes 204 hp and 350 Nm through a 9-speed automatic, which brings a loaded car up to speed comfortably and completes an overtake if you set it up early. Ask for an instant surge with all seven seats full and you will feel a four-cylinder working against the weight. It is a relaxed motorway car rather than a fast one, which for something carrying this many people is the right priority.

One thing to be clear about, because the aggregator spec sheets contradict each other on it. The RX9 is front-wheel drive in standard form, with four-wheel drive only on the higher-spec cars, and we cannot promise which one arrives at your door. Either way this is a road SUV with an off-road driving mode, not a body-on-frame 4x4. Graded tracks and beach access roads are fine. Soft dunes are not, and being recovered from them is an expensive afternoon.

The group this one is built for

Book the MG RX9 2025 if you are moving people and want full-size space without paying full-size money. A visiting family of five or six, a group splitting one car for the week, a household whose school run outgrew five seats. On those weeks you get a third row you can actually use, a boot that works properly once that row is down, and a cabin that feels a class above the rate.

Two groups should book something else. If your week is genuinely seven adults with seven full-size cases at the same time, a van-based seven-seater with a deep boot behind the last row is the honest answer. And if there are only two or three of you, you are paying to move a car you will spend the week parking, when a mid-size SUV is cheaper to fuel and easier to place in a basement. For everyone in between, the RX9 is the most car per dirham on the lot.
