Most seven-seaters in Dubai cost premium-SUV money; the MG RX8 2024 doesn't, and that's the whole reason it books. We rent the latest RX8 across the city with delivery to your door inside one to two hours and 250 km a day in the rate. It's a near five-metre, body-on-frame SUV with three rows, a turbo four and all-wheel drive, sitting in the economy bracket on price. The argument here runs against the obvious one: the RX8 is at its best as a roomy five-seater with a vast boot, and the third row is the safety net for the days you need it, not the everyday reason to rent it. Get that the right way round and it's a lot of metal for the rate.
On Sheikh Zayed Road the RX8 settles into an easy, high-seated cruise that suits long highway stretches. The 2.0-litre turbo four makes 220 hp through an automatic to all four wheels, and MG quotes 0 to 100 km/h in 9.1 seconds with a top speed of 180 km/h. That's fine for a vehicle this size and weight, though you feel the mass when you ask for a sudden overtake, so leave more room and plan the gap. The trade-off for the rugged ladder-frame underneath is ride quality. Over broken tarmac and speed bumps it feels firmer and busier than a car-based crossover, which is normal for this kind of construction and worth knowing before you book.
Stability at speed is good, and the tall stance gives you a commanding view of the traffic, which counts for a lot in dense Dubai driving.

Used as a five, the RX8 is genuinely spacious, with a 519-litre boot behind the second row and a long, flat load floor once you drop the third row. That covers a full week of mall runs, a pram, sports kit and several large cases at once. This is where the length pays off.
The third row is real, not token, but be honest about it: proper for kids and short hops, tighter for adults on a longer run. The catch is luggage. With all seven seats up, boot space shrinks to hand-bag territory, so an airport pickup with seven people and their cases means choosing between passengers and suitcases. Plan for that and you won't be caught out. For five or fewer you get the big boot and a comfortable cabin, which is how most families will run it.
A tall cabin this size is slower to cool than a small hatch, and Dubai will test it. Park it through a 45-degree afternoon and the first minute is unpleasant whatever you drive. The RX8 helps itself with vents for all three rows, so kids in the back aren't left baking while the front gets the cold air. Drop the windows for the first thirty seconds to dump the worst of the heat, then let it settle, and within a few minutes it's comfortable front to back. For a family vehicle the rear airflow is the spec that actually counts, and this one has it across all three rows.
Plan to refuel. A heavy body-on-frame SUV with a turbo four pulling all four wheels isn't economical, and a week of city driving will see the pumps more often than a small car would. The 70-litre tank gives sensible range, but stop-start traffic and the AC running flat out both eat into it, so don't expect hatchback figures. The 250 km a day in the rate covers most city itineraries, with extra kilometres charged at 2 AED beyond that.
At nearly five metres the RX8 won't tuck into tight Marina bays or older multi-storey slots the way a compact does, and U-turns need a wider sweep. The high view and light steering help, and the 202 mm of clearance means mall ramps and speed bumps pass without scraping. The all-wheel drive and that clearance make it capable on graded desert tracks, beach approaches and the easier trails around Hatta. What it isn't is a low-range, locked-diff dune machine, so for soft-sand bashing rent a proper 4x4 instead.
A few Dubai basics: Salik tolls run on your rental account, any RTA fine during the hire passes to you, seat belts are required in every seat, and under-fours need a child seat, which matters more in a seven-seater carrying a full family.
Rent the RX8 2024 if you want maximum space and a high, rugged SUV for the price of a smaller car, you'll mostly run it as a five with a huge boot, and you want the third row available for the days the whole group travels. For that renter it's hard to beat on value.
Pick something else in two cases. If a smooth ride and easy parking matter most and you don't need seven seats, a car-based crossover is more comfortable and tucks away easier. If you're heading into serious dunes, rent a proper 4x4. For the everyday job of moving a big family around Dubai for a week, the RX8 gives you more room and more metal than almost anything near its price.
