Want a compact SUV in Dubai without a heavy upfront commitment, and the MG One 2023 is one of the few that we'll hand over with the no-deposit option open to you. We deliver it to your door across the city, fully insured, on a turbo engine that genuinely moves. That last part is the point of this page: the MG One is a roomy, well-equipped crossover that gives a small family a high seating view and a lot of cabin tech for economy-class money, and with 181 horsepower under the bonnet it pulls harder than most rivals at this size. What you trade for that is some budget cabin plastic and a gearbox that's happier moving than crawling.
The One sits in the compact SUV slot, five seats, front-wheel drive only. The engine is a 1.5-litre turbo making 181 hp and 285 Nm, paired to an automatic, and it hits 100 km/h in 8.1 seconds. For a family crossover that's quick. Merging onto Sheikh Zayed Road, you're not waiting for the car to gather itself, and overtaking on the E11 happens with room to spare rather than a held breath.
The flip side is the gearbox at low speed. In stop-start mall traffic or a multi-storey crawl it can feel slightly jerky off the line, a half-beat of hesitation before it picks up. Once you're rolling it smooths out completely. It's a quirk worth knowing, not a dealbreaker.
Front-wheel drive means this is a road car. It handles the school run, the airport, the highway and the occasional gravel car park fine, but it isn't built for soft sand or a Hatta wadi. If desert tracks are on your week's plan, size up to something with all-wheel drive.

Inside, the One feels bigger than its price suggests. The dashboard is built around a large central screen, the seating position is high, and two adults up front plus two kids in the back travel comfortably for a week of mall runs and beach trips. A third adult in the middle rear is doable on shorter hops, less so for a full day out.
The boot holds 336 litres, which in real terms is two medium cases or one large case plus a couple of soft bags. That covers a couple flying in for a week. If you're a family of four collecting everyone's luggage from DXB, you'll be folding part of the rear seat down, and at that point a proper sedan boot or a larger SUV makes more sense. Drop both rear seats and you free up 1120 litres for a flat-pack or a bike.
A child seat is required for under-fours here, and the One has the anchor points to fit one without fuss.
The cabin cools well. Park it in July sun and the front vents pull the heat down quickly once you're moving, and there are rear vents so kids in the back aren't left baking while the front gets cold first. For a car at this end of the market, that rear airflow isn't a given, and it matters on a 45-degree afternoon.
Around town the One is easy to place. At just over 4.5 metres it slots into standard mall bays without drama, the high view helps with U-turns and tight Marina ramps, and the SUV ride height clears speed bumps that scrape lower hatchbacks. It rides tall enough to feel planted without being so big that multi-storey corners become a chore.
On the combined figure of around 6.3 litres per 100 km, the 55-litre tank gives you well over 800 km on paper. In real Dubai driving, AC running flat out and a lot of short city hops, you'll see closer to 8 or 9 litres per 100 km, so plan for one fill in a normal week and maybe a second if you're doing daily highway commutes. It's an efficient car for its pace, helped by the turbo doing the work without you having to push it.
Salik tolls are charged to you as the renter whenever you pass a gantry, and any RTA fines during the rental pass to you as well. Both are standard across rentals here, worth budgeting for if your route crosses a few toll points each day.
Rent the MG One if you want SUV height, real pace and a screen-heavy modern cabin without paying mid-size SUV money, and you're a couple or a small family doing city, highway and airport driving. For that brief it's hard to beat at this price, and the turbo is the reason.
Look elsewhere in two cases. If buttery refinement and the most settled low-speed drive matter more to you than pace, an established rival like the Kia or Hyundai compact SUVs feel a notch more polished in the cabin and at a crawl. And if you're four adults with a full set of airport cases, or you've got any sand driving planned, this front-drive One runs out of boot and traction, so size up. For everyone in between, it's a lot of car for the class.
