It pairs a 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 with an electric motor for a combined 690 hp, and it's rare enough on Dubai roads that people look twice even before they hear it. The hybrid V6 and why you rent it

Forget the idea that a smaller engine means a quieter car. The Artura's twin-turbocharged V6 revs hard and sounds sharp and mechanical rather than operatic, and the electric motor fills in the low-end instantly, so there's no turbo lag to wait through. Combined output is 690 hp through an eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox to the rear wheels, and it reaches 100 km/h in about three seconds. On a short pull down Sheikh Zayed Road the shove is immediate and a bit uncanny, because the electric torque arrives before the engine has cleared its throat.

It'll also creep out of a quiet street on electricity alone for a few kilometres, which is a novelty no V10 supercar offers. That's the appeal: the theatre of a McLaren with a cleaner, more modern edge. Rear-wheel drive and this much power mean you treat wet marble ramps and painted road lines with respect. Keep it on tarmac. A car this low and this focused has no business near sand.

Two seats, almost no luggage, and Dubai ramps

Be clear on space before you book. There are two seats and nothing behind them, so it's you and one passenger. Luggage lives in the nose, around 160 litres, enough for a couple of soft bags or a weekend's worth packed light. A full hard suitcase off a DXB flight won't go in, so this is the wrong car for an airport run with real bags. That isn't a fault. It's the deal you accept for a mid-engined supercar.

The roof is the Spider's trick. It's a retractable hard-top that folds away in around eleven seconds at low speed, so you can drop it at a set of lights before they change. Stowed, it eats into the space behind the seats, so pack lighter still when you plan to drive open.

Ground clearance is the daily catch. The nose sits low, around 91 mm, and steep mall ramps, tower car-park entries and the sharper Marina speed bumps will scrape a front lip if you hit them flat. The Artura carries a front axle lift that raises the nose at low speed for exactly this. Ask us whether the car you're getting has it and use it on the ramps. Parking is manageable because the car is short and forward visibility is fine, but take tight bays slowly.

Heat, the cabin and running costs

The cabin is small and wrapped tight around two people, which cuts both ways in a Dubai summer. Parked at 45 degrees it bakes fast, and the first minute after you climb back in at a midday car park is the unpleasant one. Once you're moving the air conditioning has very little air to cool, so it pulls the temperature down quickly. There are no rear vents, and in a two-seater you don't need them. With the roof down, keep it to early mornings and evenings from about November to March. In peak summer, open-top driving at noon is a bad idea, and leaving the roof folded while it sits parked bakes the seats.

On running costs, plan ahead. It's a plug-in hybrid, but you'll be running on the 66-litre tank of premium fuel most of the time, and it empties quickly if you enjoy the engine. Mileage is generous at 4,500 km included over the rental, which is more than enough for a normal week of driving here. Past that it's AED 10 per extra kilometre, which is steep, so keep an eye on the odometer if you're planning long out-of-city loops. Salik tolls and any RTA fines pass to you, and seat belts stay mandatory. Being a supercar, it's rented against a refundable deposit confirmed at booking, so budget for that rather than expecting a no-deposit deal.

Who should rent it, and who should look elsewhere

Rent the McLaren Artura 2025 if there are one or two of you, you're travelling light, and you want a genuine supercar experience with the newer hybrid character. It's a rarer sight than the usual Lamborghini or Ferrari here, the performance is savage, and dropping the roof on a cool morning makes even a short drive an event. You need to be at least 21 to take the keys.

Two groups should look elsewhere. If you need to carry a third person or a real luggage load, the Artura simply can't, and a fast SUV like a Urus gives you close to the same drama with five seats and a boot.
