It's front-wheel drive, so keep it to tarmac and graded tracks. For dunes or the rougher routes around Hatta you want a proper 4x4. For everything a normal Dubai week involves, it's well sorted.

The 430-litre boot is the honest limit. Two people with a large case each plus a couple of soft bags is comfortable, and that covers most rentals here. Push past it and it tightens fast. Three or four people with full suitcases from DXB won't fit everything in the back, and you'll end up stacking bags on the rear seat. Fold the bench and the floor opens to 1406 litres, which is plenty for a flat-pack run or sports kit when you're light on passengers. Heat, parking and who should rent it

Cabin cooling matters from May onward, when a car left in open sun turns brutal inside. The CX-30's smaller cabin works for you here: less air for the AC to fight, so the front vents pull it down to bearable within a couple of minutes and comfortable soon after. There are rear vents at the back of the console, which helps with a child on the school run. At 4.4 metres it's one of the easier SUVs to park in Dubai, with tight tower ramps and mall bays all undramatic.
